Brief Position Overview

The MonArk Quantum Foundry is seeking to expand its theoretical work into the field of quantum photonics and optics using two-dimensional materials. The successful candidate will work in advancing the understanding and engineering of two-dimensional quantum materials for the generation and interaction with quantum light, as well as engaging in related theoretical/computational efforts that support/advance the foundry efforts in quantum photonics and optics.

Position Details

General Statement

The MonArk Quantum Foundry is an NSF program that is jointly led by Montana State University and the University of Arkansas with the overarching mission to accelerate two-dimensional materials research for quantum technologies in the US. The center works as a collaborative response to the challenge to deliver on the promises of two-dimensional quantum materials to revolutionize quantum information science technologies in the areas of quantum communication and computing using quantum photonics.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Conduct theoretical/computational investigations of the interaction of 2D quantum materials and quantized light fields, generation/absorption of entangled photons, and propose new pathways to control photon properties. Report results to the foundry and publish these in relevant scientific journals.

  • Assist the supervision of graduate and undergraduate students in their work associated to the MonArk Quantum Foundry. Provide scientific advice to students and staff with regards to generation and interpretation of data.

  • Design and perform numerical quantum models of quantum light-matter interactions. Integrate cutting-edge tools such as machine learning with such models for data interpretation and refined analysis.

  • Collaborate with the quantum foundry faculty and staff towards the design and interpretation of frontier experiments, theoretical/computational simulation of related phenomena, and the advancement of the field.

  • Assist in the preparation of reports related to scientific activities and achievements within the quantum foundry.

    Required Qualifications – Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills

  • PhD degree in Physics or related fields.

  • Record that demonstrates successful experience in quantum fields, optics, theoretical/computational modeling, and scientific publishing.

    Preferred Qualifications – Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills

  • Experience in theoretical modeling and numerical simulations.

  • Integration of statistical tools in analysis of optical data.

  • Experience with modeling of quantum decoherence phenomena.

  • Experience with non-equilibrium dynamics.

  • Ability to develop and solve models of non-traditional quantum systems.

  • Ability to present scientific talks at conferences and to engage in networking activities.

  • Have the ability to lead scientific efforts and guide students.

  • Show excellent and effective writing and oral communication methods in a scientific environment.

  • Maintain a well-organized work schedule.
