Gallatin Valley Summer Lunch Internship Overview:

The HRDC Summer Lunch Program is a rewarding internship opportunity that involves preparing meals for summer meal sites, delivering/serving and supervising meals at site locations, and supporting volunteers in a variety of tasks . A fast-paced and fun environment involves a good chunk of time on your feet . Summer lunch interns will work alongside volunteers, interns, and staff in a kitchen environment and outdoors for meal service. Summer Lunch provides nutritionally balanced meals to local children during the summer months at 7 meal sites across the valley. Serving approximately 600-700 children per day. Gain Skills and Knowledge in Volunteer organizing and management, food production, meal service, social services in the Gallatin Valley (all of HRDC programs), food rescue, federal meal programs, local food, youth programming, and community stewardship. It also includes lunch on days worked.

Specific Responsibilities:

● Interact and communicate with parents, children, staff, and other professionals about summer lunches.

● Supports, encourages, and supervises volunteers who assist with food service and meal preparations.

● Promote effective communication and cooperation with staff.

● Assist with meal preparation of breakfast and lunch for Summer Food Service Program sites (approximately 650 meals per day). Meals are planned and follow USDA childhood nutrition guidelines.

● Deliver meals to designated sites, supervise and serve meals, and record daily participation.

● Assist in maintaining and cleaning the kitchen, food preparation, and serving areas.

● Compliance with all applicable health, sanitation, and safety standards.

● Assist with daily breakdown and clean up from lunch service.

● Complete and maintain current Summer Food Service Program records.

● Enhance program quality

● Attend staff meetings as needed

● Participate in an evaluation of self and program

● Available between the hours of 7 to 3 Monday to Friday, scheduling may have some flexibilty..

Knowledge Skills and Abilities

Language Skills

● Read, write and speak basic English sentences Mathematical/ Money Handling Skills:

● Basic counting skills

● Add, subtract, multiply and divide simple numbers

Reasoning Ability

● Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form

● Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form

● Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.

Specialized Tools (Non-Computer):

● Kitchen cooking equipment: commercial ovens, sinks, freezers, coolers. Other Required Knowledge, Skills, or Abilities:

● Possess a valid driver’s license.

● Be 21 or older to drive company vehicles.

● Ability to read, interpret, and implement documents such as governmental regulations, rules, and procedure manuals

● Ability to work with minimal supervision and effectively manage work flow

● Ability to respond effectively to the most sensitive inquiries or complaints from customers or claimants

● Knowledge of basic nutrition guideline s

● Must pass a physical examination showing no communicable diseases

● Must have satisfactory results from criminal records check required by Child-Adult Abuse Act

● Must be certified in Community CPR and First Aid or ability to become certified. Essential Physical, Mental, and Emotional Requirements of this position:

● Specific vision abilities required by this job include a sense of smell and color vision.

● The incumbent must be able to perform multiple tasks simultaneously, and must be able to work under time and/or deadline pressures.

● The ability to make quick decisions when there are electrical or mechanical failures. Education and Experience:
