Williams Plumbing / Civil Construction Total Station Trimble Operator in Bozeman, Montana

Williams is hiring a Total Station Trimble Operator ! The Total Station Trimble Operator is responsible for accurately coordinating layout, physical coordination, building corners and setbacks of plumbing and HVAC points, equipment points, sleeves, inserts, and 3D scanning projects as needed to maintain progress and/or productivity on all types of job sites. This position will work closely with field crews, supervisors, superintendents, and other members of the team.

What You'll Do:

  • Operate the total station instrument to measure distances, angles, and elevations on construction sites according to project requirements and specification.

  • Assemble and set up the total station instrument, ensuring proper calibration and alignment for accurate measurements.

  • Use the total station to collect survey data, including horizontal and vertical measurements, points, and coordinates displaying high productivity and safety in wide varieties of working conditions.

  • Perform regular maintenance and troubleshooting of the total station instrument to ensure proper functionality, accuracy, and reliability. Keep the instrument clean and calibrated. Follow all instructions of Trimble Total Station to ensure accurate handling.

  • Conduct checks and verifications of collected survey data to identify any errors or inconsistencies during the construction phase of a project.

  • Transfer and process survey data into relevant software applications or databases for further analysis and reporting.

  • Prepare accurate and detailed reports, including measurement logs, survey notes, and equipment maintenance records.

  • Work closely with other team members, including engineers, and project managers, to achieve project objectives and to ensure seamless coordination of all construction activities.

  • Willing to travel to remote job sites as needed.

    What You Bring:

  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent. Additional vocational training or certification in surveying, geomatics, or a related field is preferred.

  • Experience: Prior experience operating a total station instrument is highly desirable. Experience in construction or engineering projects involving surveying activities is advantageous.

  • Knowledge: Knowledge of the general construction industry and the sub-contractor trades is required. Strong understanding of surveying techniques, data collection methods, and spatial analysis.

  • Technical skills: Proficiency in operating and calibrating total station instruments, including familiarity with relevant software and data processing tools. Strong mathematical and analytical skills are essential. Ability to determine distances, angles, grades, and coordinates.

  • Communication skills: Effective verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate and build strong relationships with a range of stakeholders.

  • Problem-solving: Ability to identify and troubleshoot equipment issues and identify solutions in a timely manner.

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, and to manage multiple priorities and deadlines with strong organizational and time management skills while maintaining attention to detail.

  • Must have a valid driver’s license and motor vehicle history record that meet company insurance requirements.
