Position Details

General Statement

Culinary Services (CS), a division of Auxiliary Services, provides meals for over 12,000 customers a day becoming an integral part of campus life and the overall college experience. CS proudly provides Montana State University students with not only a repertoire of various cuisines, cooking styles, and flavors, but a comfortable atmosphere to meet friends, study, and simply relax. The division is comprised of 2 residential dining halls, 9 retail operations, Brick Breeden Fieldhouse and Bobcat Stadium Concessions, Fork in the Road food truck, MSU Catering, Indulge In-House Bakery & Salads, and the Farm to Campus Program.

Duties and Responsibilities

Under supervision from the Dining Hall Warehouse Assistant Manager, the Warehouse Worker (Porter) is responsible for :

  • Accurately receiving, checking in, recording receiving temps, and stocking daily deliveries of food and food service related items in a timely manner

  • Rotating food products according to expiration dates and sanitation rules

  • Maintaining a clean receiving area and disposing of all pallets and packaging appropriately

  • Maintaining the cleanliness and organization of all storage areas, floors, walls, and storage racks

  • Assisting in all food service areas as needed both front of house and back of house.

  • Making delivery runs across campus as needed.

  • And actively contributes to the team by performing other duties as needed in support of the department’s mission.

Required Qualifications – Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills

  • Experience providing excellent customer service to a variety of individuals or an equivalent combination of relevant education and experience.

  • Basic math skills.

  • Experience taking direction from multiple supervisors.

Preferred Qualifications – Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills

  • Warehouse experience handling food products and food service related items.

  • Experience operating warehouse related equipment.

  • Experience using computers and various software packages with an emphasis on Microsoft Office programs.

10 and 12month positions available.

Shifts vary. Department is open 7 days a week.

Will occasionally work some evenings, weekends, long hours, and occasional holidays as the school and event schedule demands.

Physical Demands

  • Normal warehouse, dock, kitchen, cooler, and freezer environments

  • Constant gripping handles while operating hand trucks and hydraulic jacks

  • Heavy work: repeatedly moving and lifting containers weighing up to 90 lbs and might be awkward in size and difficult to move

  • Standing and/or moving about for long periods of time

  • Walking up and down stairs while carrying product

  • Bending and/or kneeling while stocking product

  • Gripping handles on small kitchen utensils

  • Performing repetitive motions such as but not limited to chopping, stirring, and serving

  • Exposure to cleaning chemicals on a daily basis.
