Indian Health Service Custodial Worker in Browning, Montana

Summary This position serves as a Custodial Worker located in the Housekeeping Department at the Blackfeet Service Unit in Browning, Montana. This position reports to the Custodial Worker Supervisor or designee. Responsibilities Perform a variety of cleaning functions in a health care environment which involves the use of heavy equipment, cleaning chemicals, and special procedures for infection control. Plan and coordinate daily work tasks with hospital or clinic staff and work leader or supervisor to ensure all patient care areas are cleaned and ready for use in a timely manner so patient care and schedules are not compromised. Clean Various areas such as in-patient rooms and bathrooms, public restrooms, operating rooms, labor/delivery, exam rooms, halls, walls, floors, furnishings, equipment, windows, offices, outside entrances, etc., wiping surfaces using proper cleaning techniques, universal precautions, and chemicals. Measles and Rubella immunization required for selectees born after 1957 and seasonal influenza immunization is required for all staff working in Indian Health Service health care facilities. Background Investigation: If you are selected for this vacancy, you must undergo a pre-employment fingerprint check and background investigation. Fingerprint results and background investigation documentation must be cleared prior to hire. Qualifications To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education, to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. BASIC REQUIREMENT(S): In addition to the Basic Requirements, you must also meet the Minimum Qualifications stated below. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Competition for Custodial Worker Positions is restricted by law to persons entitled to veteran's preference as long as such applicants meet the additional eligibility criteria under the IHS Excepted Service Examining Plan and/or IHS Merit Promotion Plan. Candidates for this position will be evaluated under the Job Qualification System for Trades and Labor Occupations. Under this system, how applicants gained their skill and knowledge or the length of time they have spent in a line of work are not as important as the fact that they have the required ability or potential to do the job. In this system, the job element method is used to match what applicants can do against what the work calls for. The knowledge, skill and abilities of applicants are compared with the knowledge, skills, and abilities (called job elements) needed for success. SCREEN OUT ELEMENT(S): Ability to do the work of the position without more than normal supervision. WG-03: Your resume must demonstrate experience obtained in either the Federal, private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: Clean various areas, e.g., exam rooms, public restrooms, walls, floors, furnishings, windows, outside entrance, respond to emergency cleaning needs; vacuum, sweep, mop and maintain floors within the facility and facility quarters when required; Use of manual and automated cleaning tools, e.g., brooms, mops, high pressured floor and/or carpet cleaners, pressure washers, etc.; remove non-infectious and infectious waste, mix and use chemicals, lift of move objects weighing up to 50 pounds or more. Time In Grade Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP). You must meet all qualification requirements within 30 days of the closing date of the announcement. Education There are no education requirements. Additional Information Per IHS policy (SGM 21-04) IHS selectees to positions located in Federally operated hospitals, health centers, and clinics must be fully vaccinated for COVID-19 before entry on duty or have IHS approve a medical or religious exemption. If an exemption is approved then wearing a face mask and regular testing for COVID-19 will be required. Your Human Resources Specialist will provide a list of documents acceptable as vaccination proof and instructions on how to submit your vaccination documentation or how to request a medical or religious exemption, if needed. Additional selection(s) of candidates may be possible within 240 days from the date the certificate of eligibles was issued for this announcement. Federal Employees earn annual leave at a rate (4, 6 or 8 hours per pay period) which is based on the number of years they have served as a Federal employee. IHS may offer newly-appointed Federal employees credit for their directly related previous non-federal experience or active duty uniformed military service. This credited service can be used in determining the rate at which they earn annual leave. This position is covered by a Bargaining Unit. This position has no promotion potential.
