Assistant Professor- Chemistry & Geochemistry

Full-Time, Academic Year, Tenurable

DUTIES:

  • Teach courses at the undergraduate level, and occasionally at the master’s and doctoral level

  • Undergraduate courses to be taught will be in more than one of the following areas, as needed: general chemistry, organic chemistry laboratory, and introductory level general/organic/biochemistry combined courses.

  • Advise and mentor students

  • Participate in departmental activities, especially those focused on recruitment and retention of undergraduate chemistry majors

  • Develop and maintain an externally funded research program, working with both undergraduate and potentially graduate level students.

    REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Earned doctoral degree in chemistry or chemistry education by the position start date of August 15, 2022.

    REQUIRED SKILLS:

  • Experience that reflects an ability to conduct impactful research in chemistry education

  • Demonstrated ability to implement innovative chemistry teaching strategies

  • The ability to effectively teach general chemistry

  • Demonstrated ability to implement strategies for outreach, recruitment/retention, and mentoring of undergraduate chemistry majors

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Postdoctoral or other postgraduate experience (preferred but not required)

  • University level teaching experience in any area of chemistry (preferred but not required)

  • Demonstrated experience with writing grants (preferred but not required)

  • Demonstrated support or mentorship of students in research (preferred but not required)

  • Demonstrated publication record of research results (preferred but not required)
