Montana Tech Assistant Professor-Geological Engineering in Butte, Montana

Assistant Professor-Geological Engineering

Montana Technological University (Montana Tech) seeks applications for a tenure-track faculty position at the Assistant Professor level in the Department of Geological Engineering. The anticipated starting date is January 2, 2025. The department (https://www.mtech.edu/geological-engineering/index.html) is one of the founding programs in what was once the Montana School of Mines in Butte, Montana, a city of about 35.000 people with great historical and geological significance in the scenic  Rocky Mountains of southwestern Montana.

Duties:

The Candidate will engage undergraduate and graduate students in hands-on learning/teaching and research.

Contribute to the geological engineering program by teaching a mix of general undergraduate classes and also graduate classes in the candidate’s areas of expertise.

Independently establish a research program

Contribute to campus and department service

Required Qualifications:

 

  • Doctoral degree in Geological Engineering, Geology, or related field from an accredited institution (by the time of appointment /start date);

  • Expertise in geological and/or geological engineering topics relevant to the undergraduate geological engineering program, particularly topics that complement those of the other faculty in the department;

  • Ability and desire to develop and teach undergraduate courses serving the geological engineering program;

  • A demonstrated record of research excellence, commensurate with career stage.

    Preferred Qualifications:

  • Past experience with and commitment to excellent teaching at the university level, or demonstrated ability to develop potential in this area;

  • Evidence of ongoing scholarly activity (patents, peer-reviewed publications, successful proposals, etc.). or evidence of commitment to developing an active research program;

  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with colleagues, students, and external partners;

  • Industry and/or government experience relevant to the applicant’s career path;

  • Strong communications skills, both written and oral;

  • Experience with mentorship, or potential to develop mentorship skills;

  • Professional registration or licensure, or the interest and ability to pursue professional registration or licensure.
