Computer Systems Analyst II-Financial Aid

Full-Time

$29.58/Hour

Montana Tech’s Financial Aid office seeks a Computer Systems Analyst who is committed to delivering efficient and effective service to students. This individual will have primary responsibility for testing and implementing computer system enhancements to support compliant distribution of financial aid. To accomplish this, the position will design, test, assess and troubleshoot functionality within Ellucian Banner and other platforms that support financial aid services. This professional will serve as a leader in designing and implementing processes to support complex financial aid data systems and improving the student experience. The Computer Systems Analyst will develop new and enhanced reporting/analytical capabilities, establish startup procedures for each new year in Banner, and serve as primary administrator responsible for creating/delivering report compliance metrics. Essential duties also include following established processes and procedures that support the timely and accurate distribution of financial aid. This includes delivering exemplary customer service and expert guidance to students/families related to available aid programs, eligibility, and application procedures.

Duties:

  • Troubleshoot problems with Banner software by utilizing product manuals, the Ellucian customer support site, and user support groups. Implement identified solutions

  • Assess functionality and develop upgrade/new release test plans

  • Lead upgrade and testing efforts related to financial aid computer systems. Collaborate with end users and technical representation as needed

  • Advise and train stakeholders in the proper usage of Banner software

  • Serve as a project coordinator by providing technical leadership and expertise during all phases of planning and implementation.

  • Conduct meetings to design processes, set expectations, and gather business requirements to improve complex financial aid data-processing systems

  • Serve as the primary lead to coordinate needs between vendors and end users to provide effective and sustainable solutions

  • Analyze diverse client needs in order to plan and develop complex new data-processing systems or devise new multi-dimensional ways to apply existing systems’ resources to additional operations

  • Explore, analyze, and test commercially available software

  • Recommend and support technology improvements

  • Develop new and enhanced reporting/analytical capabilities

  • Establish startup procedures for each new aid year in Banner

    This person will also participate in the timely and accurate distribution of financial aid by executing the following duties:

     

  • Analyze information and make final determinations in specialized areas of student financial aid packages such as:

  • Developing comprehensive grant, scholarship and/or work study packages

  • Resolving unusual needs including payment plans, loan and repayment requirements

  • Serve as primary administrator responsible for creating/delivering report compliance metrics for:

  • Pell Grant payments to the federal government

  • Student and PLUS Loan originations and disbursements

  • Federal Work Study earnings to federals student aid

  • Financial Value Transparency/Gainful Employment reporting to the National Student Loan Data System

  • Return of Title IV Funds

  • Conduct primary oversight and validation of Satisfactory Academic Progress for all aid recipients

  • Provide official notification and documentation to students regarding changes in status

  • Manage grant and loan applications and modification. Ensure all compliance processes and procedures are administered uniformly

  • Enter student aid data into Banner with attention to detail and confidentiality

  • Maintain confidential hard copy and electronic files

  • Provide exemplary customer service and expert guidance to students/families on available financial aid programs, eligibility criteria, and application procedures

  • Stay informed about federal and state financial aid regulations.

    Required Qualifications:

    Required qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in business administration, technology, or related field plus experience in information systems management or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Experience with Microsoft Office Products, including MS Access.

  • Must be able to be granted access to federal aid databases, meaning cannot be in default on any federal loans

    Minimum Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Expert proficiency in database management systems

  • Ability to analyze complex problems and implement solutions

  • Ability to interact with diverse groups and build strong relationships with team members

  • Ability to work independently to manage multiple priorities and deliver quality results

  • Ability to read, understand, and follow high-level policies and guidelines and apply those to daily responsibilities

  • Articulate communication, both written and verbal

  • Ability to maintain composure and professionalism in challenging situations

    Preferred Qualifications:

  • Two years experience in financial aid

  • Previous experience with Banner

  • Experience working in higher education
