Montana Tech Instruction and Outreach Librarian in Butte, Montana

INSTRUCTION AND OUTREACH LIBRARIAN

Department: Library

Employment Detail: Tenure Track, Fiscal Year, Full-Time

    DUTIES:

Develop, coordinate, promote and provide library instruction services; collaborate with faculty and academic departments to integrate information literacy into the curriculum; develops instructional materials, introduce students to the library through informal one-one-one interactions and formal bibliographic instruction sessions; provide outreach to campus and public communities; work with library staff and other librarians to provide excellent reference services; serve as liaison to academic departments in the School of Mines and Engineering; work specified hours providing service at the library's information desk including evenings and weekends; create an environment of understanding and respect with all library personnel; maintain and document a program of the practice of librarianship, publication and service for this full time tenure-track position; and fulfill other duties as assigned

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • American Library Association-accredited master’s degree

  • Knowledge of information literacy and techniques of library instruction

  • Ability to learn and teach new technologies and implement them in library instruction

  • Ability to build and maintain strong working relationships with faculty, academic departments, and other campus and community stakeholders

  • Commitment and demonstrated ability to cooperate in a team environment and maintain effective and respectful working relationships with all library personnel

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills as well as a strong service orientation

  • Demonstrated commitment to public service

REQUIRED SKILLS:

  • Familiarity with best practices in teaching information literacy and critical thinking

  • Strong knowledge of library related technology including various hardware, software, integrated library systems, databases, and social media

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Strong knowledge of teaching online e.g. Moodle, Blackboard, etc.

  • Strong knowledge of promoting or marketing library resources and services

  • Knowledge of STEM education

  • Experience creating instructional materials and library subject guides
