NORTHWESTERN ENERGY Planning Engineer in BUTTE, Montana

QUALIFICATIONS INCLUDE:

  • Bachelor of Science Engineering degree required, Electrical Engineering preferred
  • Ability to demonstrate and maintain a good safety record
  • Basic understanding of electric system and transmission system fundamentals
  • Professional Engineer's Licensure or ability to obtain licensure
  • Excellent computer skills and proficient with Microsoft Office Suite
  • Excellent communication skills both oral and written
  • Valid drivers license and satisfactory driving record
  • Ability to travel to jobsites, off-site meetings, and trainings (up to 5% travel per year) including overnight stays when necessary
  • Ability to pass a background check
  • Computer programming skills preferred
  • Knowledge and experience with power system modeling software preferred (such as PSS/E)

DUTIES INCLUDE:

  • Use sound analytical skills to model, perform transmission studies, propose solutions to problems, and plan the transmission system for Montana and South Dakota
  • Develop base cases and conduct transmission system studies, using power flow and stability simulation software
  • Maintain compliance with all related reliability standards including industry and regulatory
  • Prepare reports and present results to management and/or internal and external customers
  • Make recommendations to management on system improvements to mitigate identified problems
  • Provide engineering support for operation activities Participate in regional transmission groups (such as WECC and SPP)
  • Adhere to company safety standards and the Code of Business Conduct & Ethics
  • Ensure self and others actions are consistent with NorthWestern Energy's values, mission, and strategic business objectives

Full-time position.

$61,400 - $132,100 annually, depending on experience.
