Intermountain Health Surgical Technologist in Butte, Montana

Job Description:

The Tech performs various duties as a member of the surgical team to ensure a safe and successful operative procedure. This position functions under the supervision of a Registered Nurse and directly reports to Surgical Services management. It is expected that the Tech will support system wide and surgical operations initiatives and practices. In addition, this person will actively participate in the surgical operations safety plan as outlined.

Posting Specifics

  • Pay Range: $25.23 - $38.59/hour (Certified) (depending on experience). $24.23 - $37.59/hour (Uncertified) (depending on experience).

  • Shift Details: Full-time, 40 hours/week. Monday - Friday, 7 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. with weekday and weekend call rotation.

  • Department: General Surgery, St. James Hospital (Butte, Montana). Specialty cases include OB/GYN, Orthopedics, ENT, Urology, and Endoscopy procedures.

Your day.

As an Advanced Surgical Services Tech / CST you need to know how to:

  • Maintain all surgical services areas as assigned in an aseptic and clean condition in accordance with hospital safety and infection control guidelines.

  • Perform endoscopic procedures as the Endoscopy Technician and perform decontamination and reprocessing of endoscopes.

  • Maintain competencies as a Surgical Technician and will be able to perform Technician duties (as described by AST) in all SJB surgeries.

  • Provide intra-operative/procedural teamwork with physicians, nurses and assistants in the Surgical Services Department.

  • Process, store, distribute and monitor, instrumentation, equipment and patient care items by performing the following duties.

Certified Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED is required.

  • Graduation from formal, accredited surgical technologist program is required

  • NCCT Surgical Technologist certification (TS-C) or NBSTSA certification is required

  • Current American Heart Association Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers (BLS-HCP) certification upon hire or obtained within 60 days of hire with prior approval

Uncertified Requirements

  • Successful completion of an accredited Surgical Technology Training Program (CST)

  • BLS upon hire

  • Certified Surgical Technologist Certification within one year of hire date.

  • Ability to communicate effectively and diplomatically within a multi-functional team

  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail

  • Ability to successfully function in a fast paced, service oriented environment

  • Knowledge of computers including Microsoft

Physical Requirements:

  • Ongoing need for employee to see and read information, labels, assess patient needs, operate monitors, identify equipment and supplies.

  • Frequent interactions with patient care providers, patients, and visitors that require employee to verbally communicate as well as hear and understand spoken information, alarms, needs, and issues quickly and accurately, particularly during emergency situations.

  • Manual dexterity of hands and fingers to manipulate complex and delicate equipment with precision and accuracy. This includes frequent computer use and typing for documenting patient care, accessing needed information, medication preparation, etc.

  • Expected to lift and utilize full range of movement to transfer patients. Will also bend to retrieve, lift, and carry supplies and equipment. Typically includes items of varying weights, up to and including heavy items.

  • Need to walk and assist with transporting/ambulating patients and obtaining and distributing supplies and equipment. This includes pushing/pulling gurneys and portable equipment, including heavy items. Often required to navigate crowded and busy rooms (full of equipment, power cords on the floor, etc).

  • May be expected to stand in a stationary position for an extended period of time.
