To quote myriad TNC staff members, “you’ll join for our mission, and you’ll stay for our people.”What We Can Acheive Together:The Rocky Mountain Front Stewardship Assistant will conduct various facilities, equipment, and agricultural infrastructure maintenance activities on The Nature Conservancy’s Pine Butte, Crown Butte, and Blackleaf Preserves, as well as other Conservancy properties within The Rocky Mountain Front conservation area. Primary responsibilities will include but not be limited to: maintaining and cleaning preserve equipment including vehicles, ATV/UTVs, herbicide applicators, tractors, prescribed fire equipment and solar power equipment; maintaining, cleaning, refurbishing and repairing preserve facilities including guest cabins, bathrooms and kitchens; maintenance and construction of grazing infrastructure including fence, stock water developments; grounds maintenance including mowing, trimming, landscaping and fencing; providing information to preserve visitors. The Stewardship assistant may supervise staff and volunteers.The Stewardship Assistant will often work alone in variable weather conditions, at remote locations for long periods of time in isolated settings, on difficult and hazardous terrain and under physically demanding circumstances. Requires considerable physical exertion and/or muscular strain. This position is supervised by The Rocky Mountain Front Land Steward. RESPONSIBILITIES & SCOPE• Repair, maintain and keep in excellent working order all plumbing, electrical, and gas systems at Conservancy facilities within the Rocky Mountain Front Conservation Area.• Perform complex repair and carpentry work on Conservancy buildings, including guest facilities.• Repair, maintain and keep in excellent condition stewardship vehicles, machinery and equipment.• Construct, repair, maintain and keep in excellent condition fences and stock water developments.• Perform and oversee grounds upkeep, including mowing, trimming, gardening, landscaping and fencing.• Oversee and perform organization and cleaning of preserve shops.• Supervise seasonal staff.• Coordinate with contractors and organize preserve projects.• Assist other staff with various projects as needed.• Ensures program compliance with internal policies and external requirements.We're Looking for You:Are you looking for a career to help people and nature? Visit our recruitment page or contact applyhelp@tnc.org.What You’ll Bring:• Bachelor’s degree and 3 years’ experience in natural resource management or similar field or equivalent combination of education and experience.• Experience managing staff or volunteers. • Experience completing tasks independently with respect to timeline(s).• Experience with plumbing, electrical systems, equipment maintenance, carpentry, and grazing infrastructure maintenance. • Experience operating various types of equipment in a safe and efficient manner (e.g. tractor, backhoe, skid-steer, lawn mower, power tools, chainsaw, UTV, ATV or OHV, two-way radio, or similar equipment).• Experience with outdoor work in all weather conditions in remote locations, alone with minimum supervision.• Willingness to work with and learn from people with different backgrounds.• Willingness to obtain related licenses or certifications as required. (e.g. First Aid, CPR, herbicide or pesticide application).• Experience using common software applications such as Word, Excel, web browsers, etc.Desired Qualifications:• Experience, coursework or other training in applying science to decision-making and to guide activities.• Experience with GPS, GIS, and mapping applications such as ArcMap Pro. • Experience interacting with preserve visitors and convey basic preserve information.• Experience safely handling herbicides, applying herbicides via pressurized spray units, and calibrating spray equipment for efficient application over large areas of terrain. • Experience, coursework or other training in grazing and land management.• Experience, coursework or other training in ecological systems and conservation practices. Start date is flexible with an ideal start date of July 2024. The starting pay range for a candidate selected for this position is generally within the range of $53,900 - $55,000 depending on experience for annual base salary. This range only applies to candidates whose country of employment is the USA. Where a successful candidate’s actual pay will fall within this range will be based on a variety of factors, including, for example, the candidate's location, qualifications, specific skills, and experience.
