State of Montana Activities Smoke Aide in Columbia Falls, Montana

/The Montana State Veterans Home/ /To be considered for any DPHHS Agency position, applicants must complete and submit their application online, as well as upload any required application materials. Successful applicant(s) are required to successfully pass all DPHHS specific background check(s) relevant to each position./ This position is assigned to the Montana Veterans’ Home in Columbia Falls, which functions under the Senior and Long-Term Care Division within the Department of Public Health and Human Services. The facility is licensed for 105 skilled nursing beds, including a 15 bed Alzheimer wing. The facility also operates a 12-bed V.A. domiciliary wing. The facility is inspected, at least, annually by the Certification and Survey Bureau and the Veterans’ Administration. The applicant serves as a supervised smoking attendant, an activities aide, and helps nursing residents who need assistance with dining. He/She functions under the direction of the Recreation Technician. The main purpose of the position is to provide supervised smoking for residents according to the facility smoking policy, to provide direct social activities to residents as required by the Certification and Survey Bureau and the Veterans’ Administration, and to assist resident in the dining areas. Works under the supervision and direction of the Recreation Technician. Assists in carrying out a structured treatment regimen within the scope of activities. Such duties include, but are not limited to: Assembling residents for group and individual activities; assisting the residents to scheduled activity and social functions; provides input to the Recreation Technician in the assessment of each individuals’ performance, as well as attendance in activities programs; maintains recreation orderly activity areas in the assimilation of curios used in functions relating to activities; assists the Recreation Technician in charting progress notes; helps the in developing activities on a daily/weekly/monthly basis; assists in organizing games, arts and craft sessions, and music activities; coordinates and assists with van rides, field trips, in-house activity functions, and related activities. Provides supervised smoking to nursing residents who have been evaluated for safety if they wish to smoke. Follows policy and procedure #150, which designates smoking times, smoking areas, and the procedures to follow in order to ensure a safe environment for all residents. Assists residents to and from dining areas, helps residents to eat by assisting them with feeding, special condiments, dishes, and utensils. Performs other duties as assigned. Heavy lifting is required on an as-needed basis. A basic understanding of transferring techniques is necessary. Lifting in conjunction with moving equipment, supplies, etc., is required. This position requires the incumbent to work days, evenings, weekends, and holidays as scheduling requires. It also requires the person to be around cigarette smokers for at least four hours per day. Working knowledge of the rules, equipment and procedures of a variety of recreational activities and games. Knowledge of the policies, practices, and regulations of the facility with respect to safety procedures, smoking procedures, and individuals’ rights. Working knowledge of the activities program in a long-term care facility, and understanding of a geriatric population in terms of activities abilities. Working knowledge of various food texture.
