Truck Driver – Job Description

Location: Various locations within 200 miles of Columbia Falls, Montana

Reports to: Job Superintendent/Operations Manager

We work primarily in Northwest Montana and provide a full range of services, including earthwork, trucking, gravel crushing, concrete supply, aggregate surfacing, culvert/pipe installation, asphalt paving, and retail aggregate supply (gravel, asphalt). Functional Summary

Reporting to the Job Superintendent, the Truck Driver is responsible for safely operating various heavy trucks, including but not limited to belly dumps, water trucks, dump trucks and tractor-trailers as needed for road construction. This position requires flexibility and extended periods of travel to various locations within 250 miles of Columbia Falls, MT.

Key Responsibilities

The responsibilities of the Truck Driver include, but are not limited to:

Operations

  • Safe and efficient operation of all commercial vehicles as assigned.

  • Haul aggregates, asphalt and/or water as directed.

  • Haul equipment to and from job sites as directed.

  • Ensure assigned truck and trailer is greased weekly.

  • Identify mechanical failures and future preventive maintenance needs of assigned truck and documenting this information on daily timecard.

  • Understand and follow directions from supervisors.

  • Communicate effectively with mechanics and supervisors to ensure commercial vehicle is safe for travel.

  • Assist with other duties as requested by the Job Superintendent.

  • Fuel assigned truck as needed.

    Safety, Teamwork & Compliance

  • Promote, execute and adhere to the company’s safety policies and encourage all employees, subcontractors and consultants to adopt safety as a culture.

  • Attend and participate in safety meetings and inspections.

  • Work in a safe, responsible manner to not intentionally or unintentionally injure oneself, or endanger the wellbeing of others.

  • Understand and comply with Company policies and procedures

  • Promote a team approach and maintain an open and respectful approach to communication with all employees.

  • Wear appropriate protective equipment: steel toed boots, hard hats, ear and eye protection.

    Requirements/Experience

  • Strong work ethic

  • Prior truck driving experience required. Must be able to back up a 42 foot trailer safely and efficiently.

  • Valid Class A Commercial Driver’s License with tanker, and double-triples endorsements.

  • No High School Diploma or G.E.D. required, but preferred.

  • Clean driving record for last 3 years.

  • Valid medical card.

  • Shifts are typically 10--12 hours, 4—5 days per week. We operate on a 70 hour work week during the busy construction season.

  • A willingness to work overtime, as required.

  • Due to the nature of road construction, a high degree of flexibility and ability to travel on short notice is required.

  • Must comply with the company’s drug and alcohol testing requirements and will also be subject to the FMCSR.

    The successful applicant will be required to join or be a member of the Teamsters Union.
