State of Montana Certified Nurse Aide Trainee in Columbia Falls, Montana

The Montana Department of Public Health and Human Services (DPHHS) has a career opportunity as a Certified Nurse Aide Trainee at the Montana Veteran’s Home. * * The Montana Veterans' Home (MVH) located in Columbia Falls is a Medicare/Medicaid and Veterans' Administration certified facility with 105 intermediate/skilled-care beds and 12 domiciliary beds. The nursing facility includes a 15-bed Dementia Care unit. MVH has been providing services to Veterans since 1896. The Montana Veterans' Home is located next to the Flathead River just minutes away from Glacier National Park. A large pavilion, walking paths and protected courtyards provide ample opportunities for outdoor access. The facility offers individual and group activities, spiritual services, support group services and social services. The skilled and rehabilitative services include physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy and dietitian services. The Certified Nurse Aide Trainee course prepares you to enter the workforce as a CNA. Through hands-on clinical training, the intensive course teaches the skills required to become a CNA. You will also gain an understanding of basic medical terminology, basic human anatomy and physiology and the aging process. Typical tasks include dressing and grooming, peri-care, oral care, showers and baths, toileting, feeding, sanitation and cleaning of designated areas, bed/linen changes. At the end of the course, you are given the CNA test approved by the state of Montana. Trainees who pass the test will obtain their CNA license and are eligible for employment as a CNA with MVH at $21.55 per hour. CNA’s assist residents with daily living activities. Other responsibilities include: 1) Measuring and recordings residents’ vital signs such as temperature, blood pressure, weight, pulse and respiratory rate; 2) Assisting residents with daily living activities such as eating, personal hygiene, and dressing; and 3) Providing compassionate support to residents/family members and encouraging open communication. Major Duties or Responsibilities: A. Resident Care * Measures and records residents’ vital signs such as temperature, blood pressure, weight, pulse and respiratory rate. * Assists residents with daily living activities such as eating, personal hygiene, and dressing. * Provides compassionate support to residents/family members and encourages open communication. * Measures input and output and collect specimens for testing. * Answers call light for assistance and responds to residents’ needs. * Assists residents with daily living activities such as eating, personal hygiene, and dressing. * Assists staff in providing resident care and responds to emergencies. * *Observes residents’ condition or behavior and reports changes to nurse. * Change linens, make beds, cleans residents’ rooms, bathrooms, or other resident areas. * Assists residents with daily living activities such as eating, personal hygiene, and dressing. *B. *Documentation* * Maintains records of CNA care provided to each resident. * Transcribes codes corresponding to resident care. C. *Other Duties as Assigned* * Maintains records of CNA care provided to each resident. * Orients new residents and new CNA staff. * Completes other nursing care tasks as requested. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Required for the first day of work: When CNA Certification is obtained: * Knowledge of the aging process and basic anatomy. * Knowledge of caregiver role and infection controls. * Knowledge of residents’ rights and confidentiality principles. * Written and oral communication skills. * Ability to provide residents with quality care. * Ability to demonstrate patience and empathy. * Ability to observe and pay attention to details. * Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships. Minimum Qualifications (Education and Experience): * High School Diploma or equivalent. * Montana CNA Certification * Minimum age 18 Physical and Environmental Demands: Work is of medium demand, that involves lifting, pushing, pulling, bending, reaching, squatting, kneeling; stooping; twisting and extensive standing. *Lift 50lbs occasionally;Lift 15-20lbs frequently; *Push/pull 60lbs occasionally/Reach forward and below frequently. Must have the ability to transfer residents safely. Must be able to effectively communicate with patients. May be exposed to blood borne pathogens.
