Schellinger Construction Crushing Superintendent in Columbia Falls, Montana

Job Summary

The Crushing Superintendent is responsible for the supervision of the company’s crushing operation, which includes supervising our crushing crews, finding gravel, meeting production and specification requirements, maintenance and repairs, quality control, safety, and administration.

Key Responsibilities

Responsibilities of the Crushing Superintendent include, but are not limited to:

Operations & Supervision

  • Finding gravel and interacting with landowners in a professional manner

  • Supervising all crushing operations and personnel: scheduling crews, making assignments and directing work; addressing complaints and resolving issues.

  • Meeting crushing production and specification goals; resolving operational problems; identifying work process improvements.

  • Determining gravel pit layout and set up processes - ensuring SCC has all necessary permits and is in compliance with landowner agreements.

  • Prioritizing and directing maintenance personnel on repairs of onsite equipment and crusher

  • Price checking, selecting, and ordering required materials and supplies in accordance with established purchasing procedures. Determining and recommending additional equipment and tools requirements

  • Inspecting site daily for potential hazards or safety concerns and MSHA compliance.

  • Have a thorough understanding of the plan for each crushing project, including specifications, equipment, manpower, quantities, quality control procedures, materials, safety and security practices, temporary utilities, and staging areas

    Communication, Teamwork & Administration

  • Performing all communication and management activities, particularly during stressful situations, in a respectful manner

  • Collaborate with the Crushing Leader to prepare daily, weekly, and long-term plans

  • Assist crews when needed e.g. operating crushing related equipment and crusher; set up/teardown of crusher

  • Supervise the performance of the crushing crews, which includes: recruiting, new hire orientation, resolving and documenting performance issues, training & development, and providing/receiving feedback.

  • Work with the crushing maintenance crew and the Shop Foreman to prioritize and complete equipment repairs and preventive maintenance.

  • Working with Shop Foreman to ensure that an adequate inventory of tools, parts, and services for equipment are on hand or made available in a timely manner.

  • Review project productivity and job costs; ensure the completion of the annual air quality reporting.

  • Review and approve timecards, meet reporting requirements, and ensures contract compliance

    Safety & Compliance

  • Ensure that “Safety First” is understood and demonstrated; ensure your crews are conducting weekly safety meetings

  • Enforce and comply with company safety policies, MSHA regulations, EEO policies, benefits and standard company procedures.

  • Participates in MSHA inspections. Conducts site-specific MSHA training and safety training

  • Attend the annual foreman’s meeting and OSHA training

    Other Requirements

  • 10+ years of crushing experience

  • Willing to travel

  • Willing to work overtime

  • A valid driver’s license and a good MVR is required. CDL not required, but will be viewed favorably

  • Wear appropriate protective equipment on job sites: steel-toed boots, hard hats, ear, and eye protection

  • Work is performed in an outdoor setting, which will include inclement weather, heat and cold, and exposure to dust and asphalt.

  • Experience using Microsoft Office’s suite of products (Word, Excel, Outlook) is preferred

  • Must comply with the company’s drug and alcohol testing requirements.
