Schellinger Construction Heavy Equipment Oiler/Maintenance in Columbia Falls, Montana

Functional Summary

Reporting to the Shop Foreman, the Heavy Equipment Maintenance Technician is responsible for completing preventive maintenance on a variety road construction equipment, trucks and trailers. The Heavy Equipment Oiler/Maintenance must be able to work independently, travel to our various project sites, and work over-time as needed.

Key Responsibilities

The responsibilities of the Heavy Equipment Oiler/Maintenance include, but are not limited to:

  • Performs all scheduled preventative maintenance services including fluid and filter maintenance within time requirement guidelines. Cycles all machine functions to ensure all preventative maintenance procedures performed correctly and completely.

  • Performs schedule oil sampling (SOS) accurately and sends samples to lab.

  • Identifies potential safety problems on all makes and types of construction equipment through walk around inspection and reports them to the shop foreman or site superintendent.

  • Keeps accurate records of preventative maintenance services completed on equipment.

  • Communicates machine issues and status of machine to shop foreman.

  • Orders, stocks, maintains and organizes preventive maintenance supplies such as air and fuel filters, fluids and grease.

  • Work with and follow directions from supervisors.

  • Able to work both independently and with other mechanics/employees

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

  • Attend and participate in safety meetings and inspections.

  • Work in a safe, responsible manner to not intentionally or unintentionally injure oneself, or endanger the wellbeing of others.

  • Understand and comply with Company policies and procedures

  • Promote a team approach and maintain an open and respectful approach to communication with all employees.

  • Wear appropriate protective equipment: steel toed boots, hard hats, ear and eye protection.

    Requirements/Experience

  • Ability to self-schedule and perform duties with minimal supervision.

  • Must be able to stand for long periods of time along with walking, sitting, climbing stairs, reaching pushing, pulling, leaning and twisting.

  • Must be able to lift up to 75 lbs.

  • A High School Diploma or G.E.D. is preferred.

  • A valid commercial driver’s license and good MVR is required.

  • Must be willing to work an average of 50 + hours per week during the busy season, including some Saturdays. 40 hours per week can be expected during the slower winter season.

  • Work is performed in an outdoor setting, which could include inclement weather, heat and cold, and exposure to dust and asphalt.

  • MSHA certification is required. Training will be provided as needed.

  • Must comply with the company’s drug and alcohol testing requirements.

  • Associates Degree or technical training from an accredited vocational school preferred.

  • One year similar experience working on heavy equipment required.

  • Knowledge and use of Microsoft computer products or other comparable systems required.

  • Knowledge of proper fluid disposal and environmental practices.

  • Ability to start and run machinery.

    Compensation offered with this role will be based on work experience and capability
