Position : Manufacturing Engineer – Columbia Falls

Division: Innovative Solutions Group (ISG)

Department: Industrial Efficiencies

Schedule: Full-Time – Non-Exempt

Reports To: Director of Industrial Efficiencies

The Manufacturing Engineer will be responsible for designing, implementing, and reviewing the procedures and equipment involved in the manufacturing process. A successful candidate will be able to adapt and innovate within the unique design challenges of Nomad’s industry and clientele. All steps within the Manufacturing Engineer’s work portfolio must meet or exceed Nomad GCS’s standards of excellence.

Essential Functions/Responsibility

  • Work closely with Director of Industrial Efficiencies.

  • Research, develop, and recommend new tooling and equipment, providing ROIs and reports for purchasing.

  • Research and develop new processes, including automation, to improve efficiency, quality, safety, and throughput.

  • Plan factory layouts to optimize production. Efforts should result in improved integration of the facilities and systems to produce quality products with the optimum expenditure of capital.

  • Analyze production processes, schedules, methods, and other data to provide management with comprehensive reports, enabling management to better understand future requirements needed for the expansion and improvement of the current manufacturing processes.

  • Provide assessment of and recommendations for changes in current layouts, coordination and flow of goods and final products between different facilities.

  • Review and calculate labor, material, and other production costs along with reviewing schedules and future production requirements to assist management in decision making.

  • Perform process and capacity analyses by documenting product, resource and information flow in current operations using tools including value stream maps, process flow diagrams, time and motion studies, and CAD drawings.

  • Analyze and plan workflow, equipment placement and space requirements to improve manufacturing efficiency.

  • Evaluate quality control processes and make recommendations for improvements.

  • Ensure that the company’s manufacturing processes comply with all government laws and regulations.

  • Manage continuous improvements projects and Lean activities within the facility to improve overall workflow.

  • Support problem-solving initiatives by running RCAs and helping to implement corrective actions.

  • Work well within a team environment.

  • Demonstrate proven written & verbal communication skills.

  • Be proficient in software packages such as Microsoft Office (Excel, Access, Word, PowerPoint, Visio,) and CAD (ideally Solidworks).

  • Understand the significance of the Nomad Core Values and learn and apply them to your work.

  • Perform additional duties may be assigned by Management.

    Basic Knowledge Desired

  • Knowledge of business and management principles involved in strategic planning, resource allocation, human resources modeling, leadership technique, production methods, and coordination of people and resources.

  • Knowledge of the practical application of engineering science and technology. This includes applying principles, techniques, procedures, and equipment to the design and production of various goods and services.

  • Knowledge of relevant equipment, policies, procedures, and strategies to promote effective local, state, or national security operations for the protection of people, data, property, and institutions.

  • Knowledge of raw material, production processes (welding, machining, grinding/cutting), quality control, costs, and other techniques for maximizing the effective manufacture and distribution of goods.

  • Previous knowledge gained from experience with Computer Aided Design (CAD), Solidworks preferred.

  • Previous knowledge and experience engineering designs using sheet metal, weldments, and simulations.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office.

    Physical Demands

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands and arms to finger, handle, feel, reach, or operate objects, tools, or controls.

  • The employee is intermittently required to stand, walk, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, talk, hear, and is occasionally required to sit.

  • Specific vision abilities required by this job including close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to distinguish individual colors.

  • Safety glasses and closed-toe shoes required when on Production floor.

    Working Environment

  • The work environment is a partially environmentally controlled indoor environment. Depending upon the time of year, temperatures can fluctuate between 60F and 100F but is typically around 70F. There are times when working outside will be required.

  • The employee may be subjected to noise levels, ranging from low volume to loud and will be required to wear provided safety hearing devices from time to time, which will be provided.

  • All Team Members must wear provided OSHA approved eye protection at all times in manufacturing areas. The employee will be required to wear provided safety eyewear throughout the performance of their duties.

    Qualifications & Experience

  • High school diploma or GED required with BS in Manufacturing Engineering or similar field of study strongly desired.

  • Minimum 3 years of verifiable work history in Manufacturing Engineering with additional preference given to Manufacturing Engineering in a custom manufacturing environment.

  • An equivalent combination of education and experience which provides proficiency in the areas of responsibility listed may be substituted for the above requirements.

  • Experience with CAD software (SolidWorks or similar) and file management desired.

  • Professional Engineer’s Licensure not a requirement but is beneficial.
