The Operations Planning Manager develops and maintains the master operations schedule, adapting to supply chain shortages, customer revisions, and changing priorities. Collaborating with Sales, Project Management, Engineering, Supply Chain, and Production, the manager ensures timely delivery of solutions. They allocate manufacturing resources and communicate plans across the organization. Responsibilities include daily schedule analysis, full project production cycles, and long-term growth readiness.

The role demands strong leadership, creativity, adaptability, and success in implementing process improvements. A growth mindset, team orientation, and effective communication are essential. Experience in planning and scheduling complex processes in a growing business is required, along with proficiency in using technology for planning and analysis to reduce uncertainty and enhance accuracy.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS / RESPONSIBILITY:

  • Project Scheduling: Develop and maintain master schedules for all projects, including a timetable of events identifying when and where (plant/work-center) critical events occur. Utilize project management software to ensure high-level schedules are accurate and timely across all departments in the organization. Choreograph deadlines and schedule changes across multiple manufacturing facilities to optimize output and customer satisfaction.

  • Production Scheduling: Develop and maintain production schedules to ensure timely delivery of products while optimizing resource utilization and minimizing downtime. Utilize ERP software to improve accuracy, timeliness, and efficiency.

  • Capacity Planning: Forecast production requirements based on customer orders, sales forecasts, and inventory levels. Coordinate with production and engineering teams to ensure that capacity meets demand.

  • Inventory Management: Monitor inventory levels of raw materials, work-in-progress, and finished goods. Implement strategies to optimize inventory turnover and minimize carrying costs.

  • Data Analysis: Analyze production data, performance metrics, and key performance indicators (KPIs) to identify trends, inefficiencies, and areas for improvement. Develop actionable insights to drive decision-making and process optimization.

  • Process Improvement: Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify opportunities for process improvement and efficiency gains. Implement best practices and continuous improvement initiatives to enhance productivity and reduce waste.

  • Resource Allocation: Allocate resources, including manpower, equipment, and materials, to meet production requirements and maintain optimal workflow.

  • Risk Management: Identify potential risks and bottlenecks in the production process. Develop contingency plans and risk mitigation strategies to minimize disruptions and ensure continuity of operations.

  • Quality Assurance: Work closely with quality control teams to ensure that products meet quality standards and customer specifications. Implement measures to address quality issues and improve overall product quality.

  • Communication and Collaboration: Foster open communication and collaboration with production teams, supply chain partners, and other stakeholders. Coordinate cross-functional efforts to achieve production goals and objectives.

    PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Ability to stand and sit for extended periods.

  • Manual dexterity to operate office equipment.

  • Occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 pounds.

  • Capability to move around a large manufacturing facility to oversee operations, attend meetings, and coordinate activities.

    WORKING ENVIRONMENT:

  • The Operations Planning Manager will spend a significant portion of their time in an office setting, working on a computer, attending meetings, and communicating with various departments. The office environment is typically climate-controlled, quiet, and free from hazardous materials.

  • Regular visits to the manufacturing floor are necessary to oversee operations, coordinate with production staff, and ensure that schedules and processes are being followed. The manufacturing environment may be noisy, and the manager must adhere to safety protocols, including wearing appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) such as safety glasses and closed-toe shoes.

  • The working environment can be dynamic and fast-paced, especially when dealing with supply chain issues, production deadlines, and customer demands. The manager must be adaptable and able to respond quickly to changes and challenges.

  • Everyday workwear should be business casual or smart casual, appropriate for both the office environment and occasional visits to the production floor.

  • Typically, the role follows regular business hours. However, occasional overtime or weekend work may be required to meet project deadlines or address urgent issues.

    QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE:

  • Proven experience in production scheduling, capacity planning, and analysis within a manufacturing environment.

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, Operations Management, or related field. Master’s degree preferred.

  • Strong analytical skills with proficiency in data analysis and interpretation.

  • Excellent organizational and time management skills with the ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.

  • Solid understanding of manufacturing processes, including lean manufacturing principles and methodologies.

  • Proficiency in relevant software tools, such as ERP systems, MRP systems, and data analysis tools.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively in a cross-functional team environment.

  • Strong leadership and problem-solving abilities with a proactive and results-oriented approach.

  • Experience in the ETO (Engineer-to-Order) manufacturing environment a plus.
