State of Montana PM CNA Supervisor in Columbia Falls, Montana

The Montana Department of Public Health and Human Services (DPHHS) has a career opportunity as a Certified Nurse Aide Supervisor at the Montana Veteran’s Home. * * The Montana Veterans' Home (MVH) located in Columbia Falls is a Medicare/Medicaid and Veterans' Administration certified facility with 105 intermediate/skilled-care beds and 12 domiciliary beds. The nursing facility includes a 15-bed Dementia Care unit. MVH has been providing services to Veterans since 1896. The Montana Veterans' Home is located next to the Flathead River just minutes away from Glacier National Park. A large pavilion, walking paths and protected courtyards provide ample opportunities for outdoor access. The facility offers individual and group activities, spiritual services, support group services and social services. The skilled and rehabilitative services include physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy and dietitian services. * * TheCertified Nurse Aide Supervisorexercises direct and indirect managerial supervision over all facility Certifies Nurse Aides in the provision of direct care to each resident and insuring compliance with State and Federal regulations. Major Duties or Responsibilities: A. Medical Supplies * The position directly supervises employees. * Follows recruitment policies, procedures, and guidelines to hire nursing aides and C.N.A. class. * Conducts orientation program to ensure new employees are aware of policy and procedure. * Completes pre-appraisal and performance evaluations within the established timeframe to ensure job standards are met, training needs are identified, and employees are informed of their performance. * Work through the corrective action process, which may include implementing disciplinary action. * Schedule’s nursing aides to ensure adequate staffing. * Directs and delegates duties to appropriate staff to ensure continuity of care to residents using judgement, work experience, knowledge, and evaluations as guidelines. * Performs duties of CNAs when necessary to ensure continuity of care. * Processes payroll time records by reviewing timecards, work schedules, and leave forms. Reviews and approves/disapproves leave requests. * Processes employee accident reports. * Conducts monthly meetings with CNAs to improve communication and morale. Takes and publishes meeting notes. * Writes or suggests changes to facility policies. B. Schedules and Coordinates Care * Assigns nursing aides to halls to complete activities of daily living for residents. * Mediates employee conflicts and resident/employee issues. * Changes resident bath or shower schedules by request and ensures baths and showers are completed by reviewing and/or changing flow sheets, making observations, and responding to complaints. * Supervises the resident ambulation, restorative, range of motion, and transfer programs to increase or maintain resident function and safety by direct observation, scheduling, and review of flow sheets. * Ensures residents receive therapeutic nourishments to maintain/enhance resident nutritional status by observation, record review, and by informing licensed staff when a resident is unable to accept nourishment. * Complete quarterly quality assurance skills checklist on care given by each CNA to maintain or improve quality of care by observing and documenting the care provided to the resident. * Schedules or substitutes for transportation C.N.A. and schedules C.N.A student shadow shifts. * Reviews records to check the accuracy of CNA documentation of resident weights for quality assurance. B. Other Duties * Assigns nursing aides to halls to complete activities of daily living for residents. * Substitutes for CNA driver in transporting residents to appointments. * Participates and trains employees in fire and disaster drills. * Reports to nurse any observed accidents or injuries to residents so the nurse can provide necessary treatment by directly contacting the nurse in charge. * Assist nurses in obtaining any equipment needed for emergency situations. * Research laundry complaints and changes practices to resolve disputes and prevent future problems by reorienting aides or reorganizing tasks. * Performs other duties as requested. * *Physical and Environmental Demands: *Work is of medium demand, that involves lifting, pushing, pulling, bending, reaching, squatting, kneeling; stooping; twisting and extensive standing. Lift 50# occasionally; Lift 15-20# frequently; Push/pull 60# occasionally; Reach forward and below frequently. Must have the ability to transfer residents safely. Must be able to effectively communicate with patients. May be exposed to blood borne pathogens. May have to work with uncooperative residents at times. Working conditions carry unpredictable job hazards as residents may have the potential to be verbally and physically aggressive. *Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Required for the first day of work * Knowledge of the aging process and basic anatomy. * Knowledge of caregiver role and infection controls. * Knowledge of residents’ rights and confidentiality principles. * Written and oral communication skills. * Ability to provide residents with quality care. * Ability to demonstrate patience and empathy. * Ability to observe and pay attention to details. * Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships. * Basic knowledge of Supervisory and Management techniques. * Supervisory experience. Minimum Qualifications (Education and Experience): * High School Diploma or equivalent. * Montana CNA certification. * Five years CNA experience preferred. * Other equivalent combinations of directly related education and experience may be considered on a case-by-case basis. Safety Responsibilities: 1. Complies with the Department’s Safety Program as outlined in its Workplace Safety Policy. 2. Observes all safety rules and applies accident prevention principles while performing duties. 3. Reports all workplace accidents or injuries to the supervisor or designee. 4. Maintains safe working conditions within area of supervision. 5. Reports all workplace accidents and injuries to the Human Resource Office within 24 hours.
