Employment Status: Temporary

Hours per Pay Period: 0.90 = 72 hours every two weeks (Non-Exempt)

Starting Wage DOE: $17.00 - 21.25

Under general supervision of the Licensed Nurse, this position assists in the delivery of patient/resident care. Works collaboratively with the Physician, RN, LPN, and CNA to meet the physical, psychosocial, educational and spiritual needs of the patient/resident and family. This position is in an acute care hospital setting. Term(s) run May 12 – June 20 and June 23 – August 1.

Essential Job Functions

GENERAL

•Supports and practices the mission and philosophy of Billings Clinic and the department.

HOSPITAL & NURSING HOME

• Performs patient care and treatments as directed and supervised by the licensed nurse. May receive Nursing Delegation as defined in Montana Board of Nursing Rules.

• Assists patient/resident activities of daily living, such as baths, oral hygiene, ambulating and turning. Obtains and records vital signs including blood pressure, pulse, respiration and temperature.

• Measures, records and provides for patient/resident: intake of food and fluid which includes partial and total assistance with feedings; output from bodily functions/specified drainage devices and collects specimens as directed by the licensed nurse/physician.

CLINIC DEPARTMENTS

• Receives and prepares patients for examination and treatment as directed. Obtains and records history and vital signs. Charts and documents in medical record according to protocol. Collects laboratory specimens as needed. Performs patient care and treatments as directed and supervised by the licensed nurse/physician. May receive Nursing Delegation as defined in Montana Board of Nursing Rules.

• Assists physicians in preparing for minor procedures and physical exams. Performs minor procedures to include but not limited to suture and staple removal, application of dressings, splints and casts, etc.

• Assists with the scheduling of appointments.

• Screens incoming telephone calls for appropriate referrals to nurse or physician.

• Provides instruction to patients as directed by physician or licensed nurse or as documented in policies and procedures.

GENERAL II

• Identifies and anticipates problems and safety issues and initiates appropriate action.

• Demonstrates positive, supportive, and caring behaviors in communication with patient/resident, families, visitors, physicians, staff and others.

• Takes responsibility for identification of own growth and development needs; meets all system and departmental educational requirements.

• Maintains competency in all organizational, departmental and outside agency environmental, employee or patient safety standards relevant to job performance.

• Performs all other duties as assigned or as needed to meet the needs of the department/organization.

• Supports and models behaviors consistent with Billings Clinic’s mission, vision, values, code of business conduct and service expectations. Meets all mandatory organizational and departmental requirements. Maintains competency in all organizational, departmental and outside agency standards as it relates to the environment, employee, patient safety or job performance.

Minimum Qualifications

Education

• Completion of Junior year of a baccalaureate nursing program or completion of first year of an associate's degree nursing program.

Certifications and Licenses

• CPR Certification, at hire
