Logan Health Clinical Lab Scientist (CLS) - Conrad in Conrad, Montana

Job Description Summary:

The CLS performs laboratory procedures using a variety of automated and non-automated technologies. Evaluates the accuracy and validity of patient test results and reports the information correctly. Performs, monitors, and evaluates quality control for all tests; maintains laboratory equipment through preventative maintenance and troubleshooting according to the established protocols. Complete documentation as required in each department. Organizes, performs and results tests to meet expected turnaround times. Participates in performance improvement projects, procedure writing and revisions, and training of new employees/student or other projects assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Clinical Laboratory Science or related science required.

  • Current Montana State license as a Clinical Laboratory Scientist (CLS).

  • Possess and maintain computer skills to include working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and ability to learn other software as needed.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills including the ability to communicate effectively with various audiences.

  • Excellent organizational skills, detail-oriented, a self-starter, possess critical thinking skills and be able to set priorities and function as part of a team as well as independently.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to manage sensitive and confidential situations with tact, professionalism, and diplomacy.

Job Specific Duties:

  • Performs tasks, duties and/or complex tests in all areas of the laboratory assigned (hematology, immunohematology, immunology, bacteriology, microscopy, routine chemistry, therapeutic drug monitoring) according to established laboratory protocols and procedures

  • Performs phlebotomies, including arterial puncture, capillary punctures and venipunctures as appropriate for the patient requiring the procedure

  • Processes specimens utilizing protocols and technical knowledge

  • Calibrates, standardizes and maintains instruments following established procedures

  • Performs quality control, preventive maintenance, troubleshooting protocols to ensure proper functioning of instruments, reagents, procedures.

  • Validates and reports results of tests performed.

  • Delivers patients reports according to times indicated in policy and collection manual.

  • Follows established safety practices including biohazards, exposure control plan (blood-borne pathogens), infection control to include universal precautions, employee right to know (hazardous chemicals), and chemical hygiene standard

  • Promotes effective working relationships and works effectively as part of a department / unit / team inter and intra departmentally to facilitate the department/unit’s ability to meet its goals and objectives.

  • Other related duties as required and assigned.

Shift:

Variable - 12 Hours (United States of America)

Schedule Details:

Please know schedules and shifts are subject to change based on patient care and department/organizational needs.

Schedule: Week Days (Monday thru Friday) covering laboratory regular hours 6:30 am through 5:30 pm with one-half (½) hour lunch period. Occasionally may be asked to work overtime. Required to rotate call with other laboratory staff members to include after hours, week days, weekends, and holidays.

Logan Health operates 24 hours per day, seven days per week. Schedules are set to accommodate the requirements of the position and the needs of the organization and may be adjusted as needed.
