PREA ADMINISTRATIVE INVESTIGATOR MONTANA STATE PRISON DEER LODGE, MT * * MISSION - *Montana Department of Corrections is creating a safer Montana through Accountability, Rehabilitation and Empowerment. If you want to work making positive changes in the community the Montana Department of Corrections is the place for you! *JOB OVERVIEW –The Montana Department of Corrections has zero tolerance relating to all forms of sexual abuse and sexual harassment in accordance with the standards set forth in the/Prison Rape Elimination Act of 2003 (PREA). / * Plans and conducts PREA administrative investigations including allegations of violation of law, policies or rules, discipline, staff misconduct, and supports staff attorneys, prosecutors, and division administrators. * Assist criminal investigators in protecting potential crime scenes through photographs, diagramming, documentation and proper evidence handling procedure to ensure preservation of evidence for later analysis or use in prosecution of illegal activities. * Collects, analyzes, interprets and disseminates intelligence information to detect violations of policy or disciplinary infractions and potential criminal activity and determine relationships between incidents which may include prison disturbances, dangerous drug distribution and client or patient abuse. * Receives and reviews Institutional Incident Reports which identify information which may be used to detect sexual abuse and sexual harassment or indications of abnormal inmate or staff activity. * Duties related to the position located in the Investigations Department may include providing technical assistance to both Administrative and Criminal PREA investigations, to include listening to inmate phone calls and obtaining, saving, and reviewing camera footage for PREA related information. * Conducts assigned PREA administrative investigations potentially involving inmates, volunteers, contractors and staff. * Identifies and locates witnesses, victims and suspects; interviews witnesses, victims and suspects by using proper interview techniques in administrative investigations. * Gather physical evidence and other information relevant to the investigation. Prepares detailed, accurate, and timely PREA Summary Reports. helps to ensure that all relevant documents are submitted to the case files. * May testify in criminal, civil and administrative actions as the investigating officer for the department to ensure successful prosecution or determination of the incident. * Receives and reviews Institutional Incident Statements for potential intelligence, criminal, and administrative case information. Ensures that the information is disseminated to the Investigations’ Manager for new case openings and to the Criminal Investigators and the appropriate case files on existing cases. * Assists HR in staff administrative investigations relating to policy and procedure violations. * This position is assigned and supervised by the Office of Investigations.
