State of Montana Psychiatric Nurse in Deer Lodge, Montana

* *PSYCHIATRIC NURSE MENTAL HEALTH BUREAU - MONTANA STATE PRISON DEER LODGE, MT * * MISSION - *Montana Department of Corrections is creating a safer Montana through Accountability, Rehabilitation and Empowerment. If you want to work making positive changes in the community the Montana Department of Corrections is the place for you! *JOB OVERVIEW – *The mission statement of the mental health department at Montana State Prison is to “deliver evidence-based services to meet the needs of incarcerated men who suffer from severe and persistent mental illness, acute emotional disturbances, and to prevent suicide and self-harm.” The psychiatric nurse position in the Montana State Prison mental health department will provide assistance and support to clients in maintaining a therapeutic environment. This position performs nursing assessment, planning, interventions, and evaluation for adult clients in the facility. Responsibilities include assigning work and providing direction and training to subordinate nursing personnel. * Patients need round-the-clock care; therefore, working hours include days, nights, weekends and holidays. The number of patients assigned per shift will vary with facility and specialty, if applicable. * RN spend considerable time walking, bending, kneeling, stretching and standing; they must follow proper body mechanics and procedures for lifting/moving patients. * Corrections Nurses may face hazards from exposure to chemicals and infectious diseases. In addition, nurses in this position must have and maintain sufficient strength, agility and endurance to perform during physical, mental, and emotional situations encountered on the job without compromising their health and well-being. * In a correctional environment, all staff receive specific training in the areas of security and correctional procedures and there are many security measures in place. Nurses working in correctional facilities must accept that the fundamental mission of a correctional facility is first and foremost public safety and security. While the delivery of healthcare is an important component of the institutional program, it is not the primary reason that the facility exists. * The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. PREFERREDQUALIFICATIONS* * Knowledge of nursing, medications, and treatment planning. * Knowledge of patient’s rights regarding medical treatment. * Knowledge of current psychopharmacology. * Skill in the use of the basic instruments and equipment of the nursing profession. * Ability to plan and implement appropriate nursing care interventions. * Ability to perform accurate and thorough work. * Ability to provide patient assessment and appropriate documentation. * Ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing. * Ability to analyze, assemble, and organize information. * Ability to proficiently utilize technology related to patient care information systems. *MEET MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS * Must be a graduate of an accredited college or university degree in nursing. * Must be currently licensed as a Registered Nurse in the State of Montana. * Preferred experience working with psychiatric inpatient treatment programs. * Training assignments will be considered for nurses that do not have psychiatric nursing experience.
