Chouteau County Sheriff's Office Deputy Sheriff in Fort Benton, Montana

Deputy Sheriffs are uniformed sworn peace officers who enforce County, State and Federal law in the county. Chouteau County's seat is Fort Benton and is located in central Montana. The county includes about 4000 sq mi and the population is 5800.   Duties: Deputy Sheriff duties include but are not limited to responding to complaints; patrol jurisdictional area; investigating criminal acts; preserve the peace; arrest persons for violations of law; issue citations; complete associated paperwork; apply for and serve search and arrest warrants; collection and preservation of evidence; follow-up investigations and interviews; transport of detained individuals; service of civil process; Sheriff sales of seized property; provide special event security; court bailiff; coroner duties; search and rescue operations; animal control activities; and assist other law enforcement agencies as needed.Qualifications: High school diploma, GED, or appropriate equivalent. Valid Montana driver's license or the ability to gain one. Completion of a background investigation and psychological / physical screening. All other requirements as outlined in Montana Code Annotated 7-32-303. Completion of Field Training program, followed by Montana Law Enforcement Academy and a one year probation period.   Montana POST certification is preferred but not required. Starting Salary is $46,673 + Holiday/Overtime/On call pay Employee medical benefits are available, along with Sheriff's Retirement System enrollment.
