Xanterra Leisure Holding, LLC Two Medicine Campstore Assistant Manager, Glacier National Park, Summer 2019 in Glacier National Park, Montana

The Two Medicine Campstore is a truly unique retail experience and managing it requires someone just as unique. This positon is a perfect opportunity for someone who appreciates a challenge and making guests their number one priority. Working directly with the Retail Support Staff and receiving feedback directly from the National Park Service, the Two Medicine Assistant Manager is expected to be flexible, hard-working, and dedicated to success. This multi-faceted position includes skills needed in: food safety, guest service, building management, accounting, and retail merchandising. In addition to a full retail store featuring Glacier National Park souvenirs and camping merchandise, the Two Medicine Campstore has a small “Café”-style food service operation, featuring a limited hot-food menu and espresso machine. The location of this Campstore requires applicants to have a RV, Motor Home, or Camper, as well as reliable transportation to and from the Campstore for scheduled shifts (roughly a 15-minute commute). As an assistant manager you will receive a free RV site for the summer. If hired, you will be required to work a minimum 40-hour week and be flexible in regards to scheduling; this can be a physically demanding position but with the right attitude and passion can lead to a fulfilling summer experience.

  • Provide and ensure excellent guest service by adhering to Xanterra’s Mission Statement, Golden Opportunities and Core Values.

  • Maintain a professional and guest-oriented atmosphere in a high-volume retail and food environment.

  • Follow all budgetary guidelines in regards to labor and sales goals.

  • Actively participate in the Retail Evaluations completed by the National Park Service and address any concerns or questions. Report all evaluations to the Retail Operations Manager.

  • Responsible for assisting in scheduling, supervising and developing personnel.

  • Responsible for assisting with maintaining proper personnel files, disciplinary action paperwork, assist in completing HIG’s along with Mid and End of Season evaluations.

  • Provide initial and ongoing training to all retail associates throughout the season.

  • Able to coach associates to maintain high and consistent standards in the store.

  • Ensure all retail employees are performing their duties properly. Must be able to boost morale and/or issue disciplinary action when needed.

  • Demonstrate and train good sales techniques by performing suggestive selling and add-on sales.

  • Ensure that accurate and helpful information is available for staff to relay to guests at all times.

  • Maintain a cooperative working relationship with other outlets in the Two Medicine area, including the National Park Service, Two Medicine Campground, Glacier Park Boat Company, and East Glacier Lodge.

  • Assist in maintaining and transmitting accurate shop records: reports, transfers, payroll, and inventory control.

  • Alert Retail Operations Manager to shrinkage, guest problems and concerns as necessary.

  • Receive direct deliveries from suppliers and process the necessary documentation. Make certain that paperwork is routed correctly and in a timely manner, and that all staff members are trained to do the same in the manager’s absence.

  • Work directly with vendor representatives to order product, report shrinkage and manage inventory levels to provide consistency in stock availability.

  • The following responsibilities apply in regards to food service operations:

  • Work with store staff to track expiration dates of products and follow health safety protocols

  • Operate and maintain all food and beverage equipment

  • Follow all equipment guidelines for cleaning and maintenance which will include: espresso machine, ovens, soda dispenser, soft serve machine

  • Assist in ordering all operating supplies and food/beverage supplies from the Warehouse

  • Assist in ordering grocery products

  • Comply with Xanterra’s Environmental Management Systems (Ecologix) and look for ways to improve the impact your job has on the environment.

  • Complies with all state laws and Xanterra policies regarding the sale of Tobacco and Alcohol.

  • Assist the Store Manager in acting as the location accountant in which the following responsibilities will apply:

  • Daily Safe Audits

  • Making change daily for sales associates

  • Completing Change Order Requests from the General Accounting Office as necessary

  • Preparing Daily Cash Deposits and maintaining daily logs

  • All other duties assigned

SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE:

  • Must have basic computer skills, including Microsoft Office programs

  • Must have retail experience, including cash handling and sales history

  • The ability to accurately handle cash per Xanterra cash handling policies

  • Must be comfortable with constant guest interaction; utilizes problem-solving abilities while maintaining positive and professional demeanor

  • Must pass a Food Serve-Safe Manager Certification test

  • Must pass a TIPS Responsible Alcohol Sales certification test

  • Demonstrate awareness of Campstore security and theft prevention

  • General understanding of a fast paced seasonal retail operation

  • Be able to have basic knowledge and understanding of souvenirs, gifts, and other products sold within the Campstore.

  • Able to work with no supervision. Must maintain excellent attendance and punctuality.

  • Driver’s license preferred

AUTHORITIES:

  • Reports directly to the Retail Operations Manager and Retail Director

  • Represents the Retail Department in handling guest concerns, resolving problems in a professional manner.

  • Maintain hours and adhere to opening and closing procedures.

  • Determine schedule and manage payroll; delegate and supervise store assignments

  • Deal effectively with all vendors that deliver directly to the store.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Able to stand/walk for a minimum eight-hour shift.

  • Frequently lift and carry cartons weighing up to 50lbs.

  • Carry boxes/product up and down stairs several times a day

  • Must be able to bend down or kneel to stock product frequently during a shift.

  • Must know how to safely operate a hand-truck to assist in moving heavy items.
