Glendive Medical Center CT/MRI Tech in Glendive, Montana

The Computed Tomography (C.T.)/MRI Technologist is a highly skilled professional who uses specialized computerized x-ray equipment and is able to operate the magnetic resonance imaging equipment to produce images of the body for diagnostic purposes as requested by the ordering physicians and under the direction of the radiologist. The technologist also facilitates image storage in the PACS system according to the procedures and protocols approved by GMC.

    Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Supports and models behaviors consistent with GMC's mission, vision, values, code of business conduct and service expectations. Meets all mandatory organizational and departmental requirements. Maintains competency in all organizational, departmental and outside agency standards as it relates to the environment, employee, patient safety or job performance.

  • Identifies self, greets and addresses patient, checks physician order and work order, verifies identity of patients, explains the examination to the patient, positions patients for exam and performs procedure according to established protocols.

  • Using proper radiation protection and precautions, prepares and operates CT and MRI equipment appropriately.

  • Perform complex tasks associated with the operation of high field strength magnets and related equipment to produce special radiographic images of specific body parts.

  • Position patients for MRI scans using immobilization and protective equipment to comply with government regulations and to ensure the safety of patients and staff.

  • Screen patients for MRI safety prior to procedure performance.

  • Start I.V.'s, administer contrast media as directed and per protocol.

  • Assist radiologist with procedure performance.

  • Evaluate MRI scans for technical quality, collate processed images and sequence of exposure and label appropriately.

  • Assist with scheduling patients for procedures and assist with clerical functions as needed and directed.

  • Load and operate power injectors for contrast media administration

  • Informs Imaging Manager of any unusual concerns, situations or conditions relative to staff, patients and physicians.

  • Assists with stocking and cleaning rooms daily. Maintains adequate inventory of all required supplies by appropriately utilizing supply management/software/hardware and/or informing appropriate personnel for acquisition.

  • Performs a variety of clerical and image management tasks, as required such as working up patients, completing appropriate paperwork following each examination and properly identifies exams for PACS storage and review.

  • Participates in quality control and quality assurance studies.

  • Assists Imaging Manager with administrative functions.

  • Enforces radiation safety principles.

  • Assists with patient transport as needed.

  • Provide for the psychological and physical needs of patients for CT/MRI procedures

  • Understand and use the PACS system

  • Performs other duties as required.

    Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Knowledge of anatomy and physiology.

  • Knowledge of the current trends and techniques of x-ray technology.

  • Ability to learn to conduct quality control studies; learn to use CT and MRI equipment; learn to operate a computer for recordkeeping purposes.

  • Ability to establish effective working relationships with patients and staff.

  • Incumbents must be able to work stand-by and call-back duty and respond to a call within 20 minutes.

    Education and Experience:

  • American Registry of Radiologic Technologist (ARRT) required

  • MT State License required

  • CT/MR Registries preferred, but not required

  • CT experience required (equipment Siemens go.Top)

  • MRI experience preferred (equipment Philips 1.5T)

  • BLS certification recommended

    Physical Requirements:

  • Prolonged periods standing, reaching and bending.

  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds at times.

  • Physical strength and agility to position patients for a variety of diagnostic examinations.
