DAWSON COUNTY Deputy Election Clerk - Clerk & Recorder in GLENDIVE, Montana

SUMMARY: The Election Clerk is responsible for processing voter registration, assisting with the preparation and conduction of elections, and certifying petitions for inclusion on the county ballot in accordance Montana Election Codes, and other applicable Federal, State, and local laws. Duties include collecting accurate voter information; processing registrations, changes, and deletions; ensuring adequate election supplies are on hand; scheduling election judges; preparing and distributing official election registers; coordinating absentee voting; assist counting board; providing support to the canvassing board; verifying and certifying submitted petitions; and other duties associated with the elections process. Must also cross train in other departmental positions.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: The job requires education and experience equivalent to a High School diploma or GED plus three years of related experience. Equivalencies include formal course work or training in such areas in principles of election regulations and voting procedures and any combination of work experience and training, which would provide the opportunity to acquire the knowledge and abilities, listed.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Assisting in election administration such as registering voters; processing and mailing voter cards and absentee ballots; preparing and printing ballots, reports, and newspaper articles regarding voting; testing and delivering voting machines; visit each precinct on election day, supervising and counting ballots; Other duties include, but not limited to sorting mail; answer phone, directing calls and taking messages. Processing and issuing birth and death certificates, copying and certifying documents; assisting the general public, recording and filing documents, searching for records, cross indexing documents, serving as deputy registrar of deeds; assisting with cemetery records, inventorying/ordering office supplies, and collecting appropriate fees. Must be able to obtain and maintain a valid Montana driver's license.

HOURS/DAYS: Part time position 20 hours per week and full time prior to an election.

WAGE/BENEFITS: Grade 14. $18.11 per hour
