Glendive Medical Center Mammographer in Glendive, Montana

The Mammography Technologist performs mammography procedures as requested by the ordering provider and under the direction of the radiologist according to the procedures and protocols approved by GMC.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • None.

    Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Is courteous and helpful to the patients, visitors, and care providers and is able to establish effective working relationships with patients and staff.

  • Has good time management skills and is able to make sound decisions in performing daily work.

  • Identifies self, greets and addresses patients, checks physician order and work order, verifies identity of patients, explains the examination to the patient, positions patients for exam and performs procedure according to established protocols.

  • Supports and models behaviors consistent with GMC's missions, visions, values, code of business conduct and service expectations. Meets all mandatory organizational and departmental requirements. Maintains competency in all organizational, departmental and outside agency standards as it relates to the environment, employee, patient safety or job performance.

  • Using proper radiation protection and precautions, prepares and operates. Mammography unit.

  • Informs Imaging Manager or Medical Director of any unusual concerns, situations or conditions relative to staff, patients and physicians.

  • Performs a variety of clerical and management tasks, as required such as working up patients, completing appropriate paperwork following each examination and properly identifies exams for PACS storage and review.

  • Assists with stocking and cleaning rooms daily. Maintains adequate inventory of all required supplies by appropriately utilizing supply management/software/hardware and/or informing appropriate personnel for acquisition.

  • Participates in quality control and quality assurance studies.

  • Assists with patient transport as needed.

  • Performs other duties required.

  • Conducts mammography study by positioning breast, adjusting compression mechanisms, instructing patient to hold breath, retreating to lead protected area, adjusting equipment controls to set exposure factors, activating equipment to take image, releasing compression mechanisms, and preparing for next positioning and view.

  • Maintains production and quality of mammograms by following established standards and procedures, developing mammograms, observing mammogram results, determining necessary adjustments for optimum results, retaking mammograms as required, and forwarding completed studies to radiologist for interpretation.

  • Ensures operation of mammography equipment by completing preventive maintenance, instructions, troubleshooting malfunctions, calling for repairs, and maintaining equipment inventories.

  • Keeps mammography supplies and patient drapes ready by inventorying stock.

  • Documents patient mammogram services by completing patient record charting.

  • Charge Mammography procedures and supplies per protocol

  • Provide orientation for new technologists

  • Provide for the psychological and physical needs of patients for Mammography procedures

  • Assist radiologists in developing new protocols and Mammography imaging techniques

    Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Knowledge of anatomy and physiology.

  • Ability to learn to conduct quality control studies, learn to use computerized radiologic equipment, and learn to operate a computer for recordkeeping purposes.

  • Good organizational skills for working independently.

  • Excellent people skills for relating to concerns of patients.

  • Ability to establish effective working relationships with patients and staff.

    Education and Experience:

  • Montana State Radiology License prior to first day of work. Active registration with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologist (ARRT) required.

  • Mammography certification required or able to be obtained.

  • One year of previous experience as a Radiologic Technologist preferred

  • Current BLS certification required.

    Physical Requirements:

  • Prolonged periods standing, reaching and bending.

  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds at times.

  • Physical strength and agility to position patients for a variety of diagnostic examinations.

  • Must have good vision, hearing, and communication skills.
