Radio Installer/Technician Assistant

Position Summary

Install, maintain, and repair radio and emergency vehicle equipment, cellular equipment, handheld radios, mobile data terminals, antennas, and ancillary equipment. Assist in tower, fixed radio, and dispatch center systems installation and maintenance.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Responsible for installing, maintaining, and repairing mobile radio equipment, working with a variety of different types of radios, including mobile units, handheld devices, two-way radios, other communication systems, various electronic measuring and testing devices, and installing or replacing other hardware components.
  • Install electronic sirens, emergency lighting systems, mobile video systems, computer equipment, and associated electronic equipment.
  • Assist in installation, maintenance, and repairing two-way base communications, microwave, audio, control, antenna, transmission line, and associated electronic equipment.
  • Provide ground assistance with the installation of radio towers, antennae, cables, and other equipment used in radio transmission and reception.
  • Assist in the installation, maintenance, and repairing electrical wires and cables used in electronic equipment repair and installation; Install and repair electrical wiring systems in commercial, industrial, and residential buildings.
  • Performs related work as assigned.

  • Must be reliable and punctual.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; detail-oriented with strong organizational skills; manage time efficiently and work independently; work well with a team.
  • Ability to use tools and equipment to complete tasks.
  • Knowledge of computer programs, software, and hardware.
  • The ability to read and interpret technical documents, schematics,and diagrams.
  • Ability to troubleshoot issues with equipment and connections and find solutions to technical problems that arise during or after installation.
  • Knowledge of electricity, electronics, and automotive electrical systems.
  • Mathematical and analytical skills; critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Demonstrate a professional and polite demeanor with customers.
  • Ability to regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift up to 100 pounds.
  • General knowledge of vehicle interior removal and reinstallation.
  • General working knowledge of Federal Communications Commission rules and regulations.
  • A clean driving record and a valid drivers license are required.
  • You must be able to pass State and Federal background checks.
  • Random drug testing is also required.

Working Conditions

Employees are subject to on-call duties, and 24-hour call-back, and may be asked to work during unusual hours, inclement weather, and other adverse circumstances. Duties may include working in confined spaces and climbing ladders to install, inspect and maintain equipment.

Desired Qualifications

One (1) year of experience installing, maintaining, and repairing land mobile radios, as well as emergency vehicle systems.

Education

Must obtain within 6 months either: Associate Certified Electronics Technician (CETa) or Certified Electronics Technician (CET).

Pay:

$18 - $21/ per hour depending on experience
