GLENDIVE PUBLIC WORKS DEPARTMENT Water Clerk / Billing Supervisor in GLENDIVE, Montana

QUALIFICATIONS INCLUDE: *High School diploma or equivalent, with specialized course work in general office practices such as typing, accounting, data processing; or, two years of related college level training; or, two years of related experience; or, any equivalent combination of education and experience, with additional experience substituting for the required college level training on a year for year basis *Working knowledge of computers and electronic data processing *Working knowledge of modern office practices and procedures *Working knowledge of governmental utility billing principles and practices *Skill in operation of personal computer (including word processing and spreadsheet software), calculator, phone, base radio,10 key calculator, fax/copy machine and mail machine *Ability to perform math computations accurately and quickly *Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing *Ability to establish successful working relationships *Ability to work under pressure and/or frequent interruptions *Ability to work with angry or difficult customers DUTIES INCLUDE: *Perform technical, administrative, clerical and data processing work in the billing of utility and other public services *Process work orders for utility disconnections, re-connections, new orders and other public works service requests *Process meter reading data; prepare and mail utility bills; maintain current customer account files; assist in reconciling utility billing activity with the general ledger *Receive telephone calls and citizen visits concerning utility billings or services; handle questions and matters of more technical nature; responds to citizen complaints *Check billings for correctness and accuracy and re-figures bills which have been issued to customers improperly *Oversee accuracy of meter readings and directs re-readings of meters where there appears to be an inconsistency between the readings for present and previous months *Pursue collection of delinquent utility accounts, including prepare and mail final notices, shut-off and turn-on orders, establish and monitor payment schedules, customer follow-up account research, prepare write-offs, appear in court to testify in behalf of City, when appropriate *Process work orders for utility disconnections, re-connections, new orders and other public works service requests Full-time position working 40 hours per week, Monday - Friday. $19.08 per hour to start, with an increase to $22.25 per hour after one year; includes City benefits package.
