CASCADE COUNTY Deputy Auditor in GREAT FALLS, Montana

At a minimum, all qualified applicants must have: Education/Experience/Training: --High School Diploma, GED or HSE and 2 years of experience in accounts payable and bookkeeping preferred. Certifications: --Valid Driver's License issued by the State of Montana. *JOB SUMMARY The Deputy Auditor for the Cascade County Clerk & Recorder's Office audits financial transactions of all Cascade County Offices and Departments and performs other related duties as assigned or required to support the Clerk & Recorder's Office operational needs. *ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Audits the accuracy and proper recording of all County Office and Department financial transactions; Audits claims for payments from County Offices and Departments to ensure proper approval, supporting documentation and lack of prior payment; Audits and approves appropriate payroll and claim warrants as assigned; Maintains all 1099 records and reports required to provide this information to the IRS annually; Notifies all County Offices and Departments of changes in per diem rates, including changes in travel, lodging, and/or mileage rates; Counts vaults for limited County Departments annually or more often as appropriate; Maintains all vendor files; Assists in departmental audits, reviewing accounting and bookkeeping records, procedures, and practices for accuracy and propriety; Researches and answers inquiries from County Offices and Departments; Responsible for all credit card audits; Reviews, audits, and approves Travel Authorization Requests for all county staff prior to travel, including documentation relating to registrations, airfare, lodging, meals per diem, mileage and any other expenses in accordance with county policy, state statutes and Internal Revenue regulations. Audits Employee Expense Vouchers for routine travel and pre-authorized trips after travel has been completed; Assumes duties of Registrar and Vitals Clerk with daily work in Vital Records Department; Preserve the confidentiality of sensitive financial documents; Attend meetings, seminars and conferences as authorized by the Clerk & Recorder; Perform other work duties within the Clerk & Recorder's Office as assigned or required. *Knowledge and understanding of: Modern office terminology, procedures, and equipment; Automated computer systems, Word, Excel, Internet & Outlook; Standard bookkeeping and auditing procedures; Confidentiality policies, procedures and rules; County policies and procedures; County safety practices. *Skills in: Interpersonal communication and customer service; Organization, time management, planning and accuracy; *Ability to: Comply with Montana Code and Oath of Office as prescribed; Communicate well, both orally and in writing, using both technical and non-technical language; Establish and maintain effective and professional working relationships with other Elected Officials, Department Heads, county employees, supervisory personnel, vendors, and other agencies; Prepare accurate and reliable reports containing clear and concise explanation of findings; Operate a personal computer using standard word processing and spreadsheet applications appropriate to assigned duties; Use logical and creative thought processes to develop solutions according to written specifications and/or oral instructions; Prioritize and perform a wide variety of tasks with accuracy and speed under pressure of time-sensitive deadlines; Quickly learn and put to use new skills and knowledge brought about by rapidly changing information and/or technology; Performs other duties as assigned or required. *The successful applicant shall serve a 6-month probationary period and will have a criminal background check conducted.
