EAGLES MANOR Medication Technician in GREAT FALLS, Montana

POSITION: Medication Aide Summary: The Medication Aide is responsible for maintaining a safe and secure delivery of medication and other health related items to the residents. The Medication Aide assists in developing, coordinating and performing the tasks on the service plan according to the resident's preferences and abilities. The Medication Aide serves as a supervisor and a monitor to all the Resident Assistants on the same shift. POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES: -- Receives report from the previous shift and Medication Aide. -- Reads the Communication Log for information at the beginning of their shift. -- Documents in the Communication Log and Progress Notes/Alert Charting as necessary during their shift. -- Assists residents with activities of daily living, vital signs, first aid wound and communicates with outside healthcare professionals. -- Demonstrates knowledge of infection control and universal precautions. -- Maintains clean, neat, comfortable, safe environment for residents, staff and visitors. -- Reports deficiencies observed in resident apartments, clothing/linen and facility to administrator. -- Completes incident report forms as needed resident emergencies and any other unusual occurrences. -- Observes and communicates any changes in resident physical or mental status. -- Is thoroughly familiar with fire, missing persons and other emergency procedures detailed in the Emergency Preparedness Manual. -- Avoids loss, breakage and waste of supplies and equipment. Maintains a neat and orderly Medication Room. -- Maintains current resident record for each resident including but not limited to: obtaining current physician orders, clarifying physician orders, as well as alert charting and monthly charting. -- Orders, stores and assists with medications per facility policy and procedures as well as current physician orders. -- Keeps current on First Aide per community policy. -- Performs other duties as assigned by Administrator. JOB QUALIFICATIONS: -- Performs resident care with an awareness of resident dignity and individuality, with understanding and concern. -- Maintains an acceptable attendance record: notifies supervisor is late or unable to work in a timely manner. -- Works with minimal supervision. -- Is a self-starter. -- Organizes and utilizes time appropriately; sets priorities and accomplishes assigned tasks. -- Displays mature behavior and attitude in speech and action; demonstrates consistently pleasant demeanor, tone of voice. -- Keeps resident information confidential; respects resident's rights; respects privacy and right to self-determination of residents. -- Performs unpleasant tasks with grace: works cooperatively with supervisor and displays willingness to assist co-workers. -- Abides by establish policies and procedures of the facility. -- Looks for ways to improve facility functioning. -- Keeps work area neat, clean and sanitized; helps maintain appearance of the community. -- Is able to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing. -- Has ability to spend long periods of time on feet and to ambulate quickly. -- Is free of non-treated communicable disease. -- Is accurate, dependable, neat and thorough in assigned tasks. -- Ability and willingness to learn quickly. -- Ability to utilize and apply basic management skills. OTHER REQUIREMENT: -- Has familiarity with and willingness to work with elderly population. -- Previous experience with medications preferred but not necessary. UNIVERSAL PRECAUTIONS: -- Exposure to blood/bodily fluids is likely. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENT: -- Has ability to do occasional heavy lifting of residents as necessary.
