Job Description

The Monitor Technician, under the direct supervision of the registered nurse, is responsible for the observation, interpretation, and communication of all telemetry-monitors cardiac rhythms and dysrhythmias. The monitor technician adjusts the appropriate monitoring equipment (loose leads, cable replacement, etc.), maintains adequate monitoring supplies, responds to monitor alarms timely, and assists unit with clerical duties as assigned.

FLSA: NON-EXEMPT

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Operates monitoring equipment. Performs patient admissions, discharges and transfers on the monitor. Communicates in a clear and concise manner. Maintains a good working relationship within the department and with other departments. Identifies rhythms. Observes patient’s rhythm changes on the monitor and reports any changes to the nurse. Documentation meets current standards and policies. Treats patient and families with respect and dignity. Demonstrates the ability to be flexible, organized and function under stressful situations and handle conflict. Manages and operates equipment safely and correctly. Demonstrates the ability to deal with pressure to meet deadlines, to be accurate, and to handle constantly changing situations. Demonstrates the ability to deal with a variety of people, deal with stressful situations, and handle conflict.

Professional Requirements: Adheres to dress code. Completes annual educational requirements. Maintains regulatory requirements. Wears identification while on duty. Maintains confidentiality at all times. Attends department staff meetings as required within the department. Reports to work on time and as scheduled; completes work in designated time. Represents the organization in a positive and professional manner. Actively participates in performance improvement and continuous quality improvement (CQI) activities. Coordinates efforts in meeting regulatory compliance, federal, state and local regulations and standards Communicates and complies with the Benefis Health System Mission, Vision and Values as well as the focus statement of the department. Complies with Benefis Health System Organization Policies and Procedures. Complies with Health and Safety Standards and Guidelines.

Qualifications

High School Diploma or equivalent. Able to communicate in English, both verbally and in writing. Basic computer knowledge, data entry and/or word processing.
