Position Purpose

The Research Agronomist position is responsible for the execution of research protocols for successful performance evaluation of candidate hybrids including all aspects of field trial management. This includes maintenance, repair, and operation of research equipment to support the achievement of a high performance research program in coordination with the North American Research Team. Identify field plot cooperators and coordinate site stewardship, contracts, and payments. Conduct special projects including the identification of process improvements related to successful research trial management. Administer work requirements of the safety program and location operation. Supervision of work crews and summer interns. Provide technical support to the Sales Territory Managers.

Principal Accountabilities

Maintain on farm breeding nursery plots supporting all aspects of agronomic support including disease nursery conduct. This includes managing the full cycle of the nursery plots including both managing and execution in fertility program management, soil testing, supply acquisition, machinery maintenance, planning and plot selection and acting as the onsite grower for the plots. Contributes to management plan and follows strict protocols for trait stewardship.

Management of field research trials including land selection and contracting, site development , all aspects of agronomic trial management, including seeding, spraying, maintenance and harvest. Contributes to management plan and follows strict proocols for trait stewardship . Data submission to breeding team.

Maintenance and management of equipment, safety and facility .

Special projects including improvements and data management.

Attend conferences and workshops to strengthen knowledge of canola and agriculture in general.


Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s in Agriculture or related field

  • 2 or more years of experience in the Agricultural industry with agronomy experience.

  • 2 or more years in the Agriculture industry with small plot trial management and nursery research experience.

  • Experience or studies in crop production and research methodology.

  • Experience with Microsoft Office Software

  • Travel required to support North American Breeding and Agronomy programs

  • Ability to lift 50lbs

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience or studies canola breeding methods and experimental design.

  • Ability to operate handheld devices.

  • 2 or more years of experience with GPS systems and the ability to troubleshoot.

  • Possession of a CDL and a pesticide applicators license.
