Lead Teacher Job Description
Founded in 1989, Evergreen Preschool Cooperative is supported by a parent board and is a longstanding part of the community. Our Lead Teacher is responsible for creating a safe learning
environment where our children can feel secure, heard, and open to exploring the world around them.
Our morning Sapphire class is an excellent introduction to preschool and promotes socialization skills in a mixed age group setting, which places together students from all ages of early
childhood (2-5 years old).
Our afternoon Bitterroot class is a Pre-Kindergarten and Kindergarten readiness class which provides a unique early childhood education experience for young children to learn, grow, and reach their full potential.
Establish and maintain a classroom true to the Evergreen philosophy
Plan, prepare, and maintain all materials for daily learning activities - including materials, thematic units, library books, etc.
Prepare the classroom environment, materials, and equipment and ensure that all materials are in good repair and all sets complete.
Schedule guest presenters and organize all field trips.
Organize planning time for changing out material, cleaning and reorganizing works.
Facilitate a respectful environment for children and adults
Prepare necessary instruction and support for those assisting in the classroom environment including classroom assistants, class helpers, and substitutes.
Communicate with parents about their children’s school lives every week and educate parents in supporting lessons at home.
Prepare for and schedule parent/teacher conferences.
Meet individually with prospective parents and students.
Carefully observe and keep daily records on each student’s individual progression through the classroom.
Assist in the planning and maintenance of the building, materials and playground to ensure they are clean, safe and maintained. Report any maintenance issues to the Executive Director.
Serve as the liaison for the classroom to the Board paying particular attention to ensuring that the Boards’ policies on safety are adhered to.
Attend monthly board meetings as a non-voting member, give staff report at meetings.
Call/find substitutes for staff members in emergency situations.
Evergreen Preschool follows the Hamilton School District calendar during the academic year.
The Lead Teacher will enjoy paid time off during scheduled breaks.
The normal schedule for this position is Monday-Friday from 8am-4pm, lunch break from 11:30-
Lead teacher must meet the following basic requirements:
Associates or Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education, or equivalent professional
Prior experience teaching students aged 2-5 years old.
Physically fit and able to lift up to 70 pounds.
Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills.
Strong leadership and mentoring skills.
Able to attend meetings during evenings, as needed.
A keen interest in early childhood education.
CPR/First Aid certification
Upon selection, a background check must be passed prior to beginning the school year.
