Job Summary
We are looking for a Research Support Specialist II to join our Insourcing Solutions Team in Hamilton. MT.
Provides technical support and acts as point of contact to multiple experimental animal studies with a variety of animal species
Prepares all necessary equipment and supplies: blood tubes, sample tubes, radiograph machines, sample collection devices, flexible endoscopy
Performs animal handling and restraint, weighing, blood draw, inoculation, injection, induction, catheter placement, monitor and recovery of anesthetized animals, animal identification and husbandry procedures
Performs daily animal health surveillance checks, daily treatments, and reports any abnormal conditions of either the animals or the animal room environment to the appropriate individual
Maintains accurate records of animal health and experimental data and related information as required by Institute and facility
Assists with development or revisions of forms, SOPs, databases related to veterinary care or behavior related documents
Perform behavioral observations, to determine potential social partners, complete social introductions, monitor progress, and partner with others to make decisions regarding outcomes of introductions
Ensure availability of appropriate enrichment to the animals' structural and social environments
Assists with tracking data related to social housing exemptions and abnormal behavior
Provides required training to husbandry and research staff on veterinary techniques and skills
Practice universal precautions appropriate to different levels of ABSL (2-4). Work safely with animal / human pathogen biohazards and help to maintain the research animal facility as a safe work environment / operation
Operates equipment and uses supplies according to safety guidelines; performs general housekeeping and adheres to safety procedures. Complies with safety policies and procedures and SDS guidelines, including those related to biohazards and radioactive substances
Job Qualifications
Education: High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required. BS preferred but not required, RVT license/experience beneficial.
Experience: Minimum of two years' experience working in a lab animal environment to include technical procedures with rodents required. NHP experience preferred.
An equivalent combination of education and experience may be accepted as a satisfactory substitute for the specific educations and experience listed above.
Must have ABSL4 independent access or have ABSL4 experience.
- Certification/Licensure: AALAS certification at the Laboratory Animal Technician level (LAT) preferred.
The hourly for this position is $35/hour.
