Job Description:

GDIT is seeking a Scientific Technology Engineer to support the scientific community for our customer with the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) . Our Cyber Infrastructure Support Services (CISS) Team provides comprehensive infrastructure, application, cybersecurity, and end-user support for enterprise and scientific community customers at NIAID. Our Scientific IT team is responsible for enabling High Performance Computing and its associated infrastructure, scientific applications and instrumentation, and end-user support to NIAID’s intramural research community. This team serves as a customer-facing presence for the NIAID research community, providing a single point of support for new initiatives, ongoing projects, and scientific IT support needs.​

In this role as a Scientific Technology Engineer supporting NIAID, you will tap into your systems engineering experience to help modernize scientific IT support and services. You will be part of a diverse team of engineers in the Operations and Engineering Branch (OEB) supporting NIAID’s mission to better understand, treat, and prevent infectious, immunologic, and allergic diseases.​

HOW A SCIENTIFIC TECHNOLOGY ENGINEER WILL MAKE AN IMPACT:

  • Collaborate with NIAID engineers and scientists to evaluate and support project-based activities

  • Triage local scientific support issues in collaboration with scientific support team

  • Provide support for high performance computing applications on HPC clusters

  • Evaluate scientific projects and provide recommendations, planning, and design of new hardware, software, and workflows to meet requirements

  • Work with engineering and support teams to improve and optimize scientific support capabilities

  • Perform analysis of system components and provide recommendations to improve system availability and performance

  • Provide transparent communications on project timelines, resource requirements, risk management, and status reporting

WHAT YOU’LL NEED TO SUCCEED:

Education: BA/BS (or equivalent)

Required Experience: Minimum of two years of related experience

Required Technical Skills:

  • Experience supporting scientific applications and customers

  • Experience working with scientific instrumentation

  • Experience with local area networking, including cables, switches, and IP addressing

Security Clearance: Must be able to obtain a NIH Public Trust

Required Skills and Abilities:

  • Strong customer services skills

  • Ability to effectively communicate

Preferred Skills:

  • Linux administration and science background, including Bash or Python scripting

  • Ability to prepare good documentation in technology solutions

  • Hands-on experience with High Performance Computing or Computational Science Infrastructure

  • Formal education in Bioinformatics, Biostatistics or Computational Biology or other relevant discipline

  • Experience analyzing solution components, understanding systems integration challenges, and identifying technology gaps in current components

  • Location:hybrid - two days onsite at the NIAID site in Montana and three days remote

The likely salary range for this position is $73,865 - $99,935. This is not, however, a guarantee of compensation or salary. Rather, salary will be set based on experience, geographic location and possibly contractual requirements and could fall outside of this range.
