RAVALLI COUNTY POSITION DESCRIPTION

Position: Tax Lead
Department: Ravalli County Treasurer’s Office
Responsible to: Ravalli County Treasurer
Classification: Non-Exempt - Grade 9 - $14.81 Hr. $2.14 Stipend

I. Position Summary
Under the general supervision of the Ravalli County Treasurer, the Tax Lead is responsible for the functions of the Property Tax Division of the Treasurer’s Office. These positions’ responsibilities encompass the full range of State and County statutory responsibilities of the Treasurers’ Office in regards to taxes. The duties will include tasks that are part of the daily work flow such as A101’s, daily deposits and other tasks as assigned by the Treasurer. Will be cross-trained on the Motor Vehicle Lead’s responsibilities.

II. Responsibilities
• Oversees the day to day operations of the Tax Department.
• Assists public with information regarding taxes on real estate, mobile homes, and personal property, State and County regulations, and/or requirements.
• Balance all Receipts and money taken in each day by the MV Dept., Tax Dept., and Treasurer
• Post payments for taxes
• Post mortgage payments for taxes
• Process and post any assignments, redemptions, tax certificates and tax deeds
• Conducts database and file searches of records to provide accurate and timely information to parties’ eligible to request and receive specific information.
• Train other Office employees on the duties associated with the Tax Department.
• Daily and Monthly tax balances
• NSF collections
• Performs other duties as assigned

III. Required Skills/Abilities
• Knowledge and expertise with Black Mountain
• Familiarity and knowledge of government accounting (fund accounting)
• Understanding of cash receipts and cash disbursements. (bookkeeping)
• Experience in dealing with the public
• Knowledge of and experience with the Montana tax system
• Knowledge of cash flows and cash flow management
• Finance or accounting experience preferred
• Experience in public administration and office management preferred
• Knowledge of standard computer applications (word processing, spreadsheet, Quickbooks).
• Knowledge of, and ability to competently utilize, standard office equipment (i.e. Computer, typewriter, 10-key calculator, fax, copier, etc.).
• Knowledge of basic record keeping and accounting.
• Ability to communicate well in both verbal and written forms.
• Strong organizational skills and the ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks.
• Ability to interact constructively with various level staff and in a collaborative “team’ setting.
• Ability to lift and maneuver boxes up to 25 lbs.

IV. Qualifications and Experience
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Additional education and/or training specific to position responsibilities preferred.
• Knowledge and expertise with Black Mountain preferred.
• Familiarity and knowledge of government accounting (fund accounting)

• Experience in dealing with the public

• Additional education and/or training specific to position responsibilities and accounting will be preferred.
• Two (2) years’ work experience in an office setting with responsibilities involving clerical support and administration, computer database input and retrieval, accounting, and direct public contact.
• Demonstrated ability to type 40 works per minute.
• Valid driver’s license
