JOB SUMMARY

The position is responsible for promoting and supporting Mountain View Co-op’s (MVC’s) marketing strategy, and sale and services of crop nutrients, crop production products, seed, fertilizer, agronomy chemicals, and animal nutrition products to improve the efficiency and profitability of producers. The Agronomy Salesperson must maintain a positive and cooperative attitude that promotes teamwork, integrity, honesty, and helpfulness. They must embrace and exhibit MVC’s philosophy and culture of customer service.

 

REPORTING RELATIONSHIP

Reports to the Agronomy Division Manager.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Establish and maintain a positive customer service experience.

  • Establish and maintain a positive experience for MVC customers, clients, and vendors, through professional interpersonal interactions.

  • Maintain a high level of knowledge of all product information, merchandise, promotions, and advertisement.

  • Make sales calls to determine agronomy needs, create solutions, and build long term relationships with customers that will generate sales of seed, fertilizer, agronomy chemicals, and agronomy services.

  • Work with managers to assist with developing and implementing crop production marketing plans and sales programs for producers.

  • Demonstrate and present producers with analysis of test plots to demonstrate improved varieties of field crops to use as a sales tool.

  • Coordinate and conduct local producer meetings.

  • Foster new and existing marketing programs that will allow Mountain View Co-op additional profit opportunities for service revenue and specialty product areas.

  • Maintain open, honest, and efficient communications with internal/external customers.

  • Maintain positive relationships with producers to exchange information that can be used to develop total farm plans and strategies for those producers.

  • Develop and maintain a current list of customers and potential customers, with analysis of their buying potential; i.e. credit worthiness, size of operations, and existing relationship with MVC.

  • Respond to and initiate necessary sales communication in a timely and effective manner.

  • Keep current on MVC’s products and services.

  • Recommend and sell products and programs to the producer within the company credit and pricing policies.

  • Relay competitive sales, pricing, and marketing information to management in a timely manner.

  • Know the customer’s needs to determine the appropriate product.

  • Attend relevant agronomy and livestock training seminars.

  • Understand and improve the financial position of MVC and its producers by offering ideas and solutions that can enhance profitability.

  • Prepare various sales reports for managers as needed and requested.

  • Maintain all necessary files, documents, and correspondence.

  • Report for duty in a fit condition, complying with the location dress code and acceptable personal hygiene.

  • Provide feedback to Managers.

  • Practice and encourage workplace safety.

  • Other duties as assigned.

  • Prepare accurate and reliable reports containing findings, recommendations, and technical documentation.

  • Operate a personal computer using word processing, spreadsheet, and database applications appropriate to assigned duties.

  • Operate a smartphone.

  • Use logical and creative thought processes to develop solutions according to written specifications and/or verbal instructions.

  • Perform a wide variety of public relations tasks with accuracy and speed under the pressure of time-sensitive deadlines.

  • Quickly learn and put to use new skills and knowledge brought about by rapidly changing information and technology.

  • Meet challenges with resourcefulness through original thinking and creativity.

  • Communicate effectively with others in both technical and non-technical terms.

  • Drive to meetings year-round within the state of Montana.

  • Work the varied hours required of the position during peak season.

     

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

    Education/Experience/Training:

  • High School diploma or GED and

  • One (1) year of Agricultural Sales experience

    License/Certification:

  • Valid Driver’s License issued by the State of Montana

  • Clarity of speech and hearing that permits the employee to communicate effectively with internal and external customers.

  • Manual dexterity that permits the employee to operate a personal computer, files, and equipment.

  • Personal mobility that permits the employee to enter, operate, and exit motor vehicles.

  • Ability to lift 50 pounds.

  • Ability to walk, stand, and reach for the duration of the shift.

  • Ability to occasionally stoop, kneel, climb, and navigate tough terrain.

    Working Conditions:

  • Work is generally performed in an office environment.

  • Travel in and outside the County to attend meetings etc. in all weather conditions.

  • Must drive and sit for extended periods of time.

  • Various noise levels are present in the work environment, from low to moderately loud.
