Brief Position Overview

The College of Arts, Sciences, and Education’s MEd Program in Counselor Education at Montana State University – Northern ( MSUN ), invites applications for an academic-year (10-month), full-time tenure-track Assistant or Associate Professor of Counselor Education position, anticipated to begin August 1, 2025. The successful candidate will teach core content courses, with an emphasis in teaching and advising in the School Counseling concentration. The duties and responsibilities of this position also include assisting in the establishment of practicum and internship sites with school districts and mental and behavioral health providers, participating in scholarship and service activities; collaborating across MSUN programs and Montana University System institutions; supporting student recruitment, retention, and progression efforts; and assisting the program in seeking CACREP accreditation.

Duties and Responsibilities

The successful candidate will teach core counseling courses, with an emphasis on teaching and advising in the School Counseling concentration. The duties and responsibilities of this position also include assisting in the establishment of clinical sites with school districts and mental and behavioral health providers, participating in scholarship and service activities; collaborating across MSUN programs and Montana University System institutions; supporting student recruitment, retention, and progression efforts; and assisting the program in seeking CACREP accreditation.

Required Qualifications – Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills

  • Earned doctorate in Counselor Education from a CACREP accredited program by position start date

  • Professional experience as a school counselor

  • Demonstrated ability to work with diverse populations

  • Experience teaching at the graduate level via in-person, online, and/or hybrid modes of delivery

    Preferred Qualifications – Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills

  • Licensure, or eligibility for licensure as a professional school counselor in Montana

  • Interest in teaching core content courses such as Career Counseling, Appraisal, and Research

  • Experience as a supervisor for practicums and internships

  • Experience with course and program development and accreditation preparation

  • Active involvement in school counseling organizations
