Brief Position Overview

Montana State University Northern ( MSUN ) is seeking applications for an experienced, full-time Assistant to the Director at the Little River Institute. The successful candidate will work 40 hours per week (1 FTE ) on a 12-month annual contract with the option of a hybrid-remote schedule in the summer (June & July). This is a temporary position that may become permanent, dependent on available funding.

General Statement

The Little River Institute was established in 2015 through funding provided by the Native American Serving Non-Tribal Institutions ( NASNTI ) program of the U.S. Department of Education. As a student support center, the Little River Institute offers culturally responsive academic support and mentorship to Native American students at MSUN ; the LRI also provides professional development opportunities to MSUN faculty and staff.

The Assistant to the Director will support the primary, long-term objectives of the Little River Institute to improve the retention and completion rates of Native American students at MSUN . The Assistant to the Director will work closely with the LRI project team – the Director, the Pathfinders, and the peer mentors – to plan events, coordinate services, monitor communication and outreach activities, and maintain program records and confidential data.

Duties and Responsibilities

The intent of this job description is to provide a representation of the level and types of duties and responsibilities but should not be construed as a declaration of the total of the specific duties and responsibilities of the position.

  1. Coordinate services, events, and activities for the Little River Institute in close collaboration with LRI key personnel

  2. Welcome students and visitors to the LRI and connect them to appropriate campus resources

  3. Assist in the planning and implementation of outreach and marketing strategies

  4. Manage the student laptop rental service

  5. Maintain accurate, efficient, and confidential records

  6. Monitor data collection and provide accurate reports to the LRI director

  7. Create and organize forms & mailing lists

  8. Provide general administrative support to LRI key personnel

    Required Qualifications – Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills

  9. Three to five years of experience – or a comparable mix of experience and education – in program coordination, administration, or grant management.

  10. Excellent written and oral communication skills

  11. Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Suite programs

  12. Experience working in higher education

  13. Experience working with Native American students & communities

  14. Proficiency with data collection & experience in grant reporting

  15. Associate Degree

Title IX Coordinator

The Title IX Coordinator is responsible for coordinating the University’s compliance with federal and state discrimination and harassment laws, including Title IX. The Title IX Coordinator oversees compliance with the University’s Discrimination and Grievance Policy. Specifically, the Title IX Coordinator:

  • Coordinates educational programs and trainings regarding discrimination and harassment prevention for students and employees;

  • Responds to and seeks to resolve reports of discrimination and harassment following the Procedures;

  • Provides information about and, if requested, assists with criminal reporting;

  • Provides information about resources for obtaining advocacy, healthcare, and counseling services; and
