Havre Public Schools Maintenance Utility in Havre, Montana

SUMMARY:
To help maintain the physical school plant in a condition of operating excellence so that full educational use of it may be made at all times. May deliver warehouse goods, mail, cafeteria food and copy work; helps district staff transport other materials as needed between district buildings and serves as custodian for warehouse.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Other duties may be assigned.

• Substitute for Warehouseman in their absence and attend to the tasks outlined in the Warehouseman job description.
• Maintains all safety and code requirements of the State, local and Board of Trustee guidelines.
• Performs general maintenance work inside and outside the physical plant such as ceiling, roof, electrical, plumbing, concrete, masonry, and insulation, tile and floor repairs.
• Performs electrical and plumbing repairs within the State of Montana licensing guidelines.
• Performs district wide grounds maintenance work such as plowing, salting, field marking, installation and maintenance of underground sprinkling systems.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
High School diploma or general education degree (GED); related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

LANGUAGE SKILLS:
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to communicate with a variety of co-workers and supervisors.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:
Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and interpret bar graphs.

REASONING ABILITY:
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in oral, written or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:
Must possess or be able to obtain a state driver’s license and be able to become licensed to drive a forklift. Must maintain a clean driving record and be insurable at normal rates by the district insurance carrier.

OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES:
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff and the community. Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies. Ability to reason and multi-task. Experience working as a truck driver and/or in a shipping receiving position is preferred.

The employee frequently must squat, stoop or kneel, reach above the head and reach forward. The employee continuously uses hand strength to grasp tools and climbs on to ladders. The employee will frequently bend or twist at the neck and trunk more than the average person while performing the duties of this job.

The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 100 pounds such as building materials. The employee will sometimes push/pull items such as tables, scaffolds, and other equipment. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee occasionally works indoors and will regularly work outdoors. The employee will work near or with moving mechanical equipment. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate and occasionally will work in a loud area.
