Brief Position Overview

MSU -Northern Veterans Upward Bound is seeking a professional to start immediately. This part-time position works onsite at the campus located in Havre, Montana. This position performs outreach support to our Veteran community in the northern and western regions of the state

We are looking for a detail oriented, customer service-focused individual to join our team to provide outreach support for the state of Montana. This is a 9-month grant funded position with a flexible weekly schedule and no benefits package included.

MSUN will only consider applicants who are authorized to work in the US and MSUN will not sponsor applicants for work visas.

General Statement

The MSU -Northern Veterans Upward Bound ( VUB ) is a statewide program of classes and support for veterans preparing to enroll in college or another training program. VUB administrative offices are located in Billings and Havre and all program recordkeeping is performed and maintained at these locations. This position will be located in Havre and will enhance the overall functioning of the department. The VUB program provides education services to Veterans. We are looking for a detail oriented, customer service-focused individual to join our team to provide outreach support for the state of Montana. The Outreach Specialist must be a highly dependable and responsible individual able to work with little day-to-day supervision from the VUB staff. This position has no supervisory responsibilities. This is a 9-month grant funded position with a flexible weekly schedule and no benefits package included.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assist in identifying and recruiting eligible participants into the program

  • Present information to groups or one on one to inform and persuade veterans to participate in the program

  • Conduct/attend special program events and student activities

  • Make referrals, identify and coordinate a support system of other college and community personnel and resources for collaborative efforts to ensure veteran student success

  • Collect records and files of required federal and other program and participant documentation

  • Conduct follow up activities with potential program participants

  • Assist with the planning and implementation of new initiatives and program services that promote veteran student success and the fulfillments of grant requirements

  • Coordinate all outreach related to the recruitment and enrollment of participants

  • Maintain relationships with service providers, making calls, emails, virtual visits, and in person visits.

  • Work with Military Guard/Reserve components to identify needs of the Units and troop personnel.

  • Distribute Program promotion materials via mail, email, social media, or in person delivery methods.

    Required Qualifications – Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills

  1. High school diploma or equivalent

  2. Ability to build relationships with community members, service

organizations, and postsecondary faculty and staff

  1. Strong interpersonal, communication, marketing skills, and initiative.

  2. Technical writing demonstrating strong writing skills

  3. Travel on behalf of the Veterans Upward Bound Program

  4. Comply with grant, university, state, and federal guidelines

    Preferred Qualifications – Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills

  5. Associate degree or working towards such degree

  6. Serving as a veteran, and/or working with veteran population, or TRIO

experience

  1. Knowledge and application of federal, state, and veteran codes and

regulations

  1. Experience presenting and managing workshops or seminars

  2. Work in educational or training programs emphasizing adult education

and individual learning experience

  1. Working w/ a diverse population, specifically first-generation, low

Income, and/or veterans

Title IX Coordinator

The Title IX Coordinator is responsible for coordinating the University’s compliance with federal and state discrimination and harassment laws, including Title IX.
