SMX is seeking a Purchasing Manager who will be responsible for the management of buyers involved with pre-award and post-award procurement activities for materials, supplies, equipment, and services.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Supervises, selects, trains, develops, and mentors staff.

  • Prepares performance evaluations for staff.

  • Serves as first escalation point-of-contact for senior program management.

  • Assigns requisitions to the staff and monitors open requisitions to ensure the staff is processing requisitions in an efficient manner.

  • Ensures staff’s compliance with the company’s procurement procedures.

  • Develops and recommends organizational structures that best utilize staff to achieve long and short-range goals.

  • Reviews purchasing files to ensure compliance with Smartronix procedures.

  • Identifies training needs for buyers and develops recommended solutions to address those needs.

  • Participates as required with negotiating terms and price with suppliers.

  • May process purchase requisitions or participate on proposal teams.

  • Provides advice and assistance in purchasing matters to Procurement management.

  • Enter purchase orders and perform general inquiries in Costpoint.

Required Education and Experience

  • Clearance: None. US Citizenship required for work under DoD contracts

  • Bachelor's degree in related discipline plus 7 or more years of directly related experience in a Federal Government contracting environment. In some cases, educational requirements may be adjusted or waived for more than 10 years applicable work experience.

  • Minimum 3 years of experience managing staff in a fast-paced purchasing environment.

  • Experience working in an approved purchasing system (CPSR) environment, including the review of procurement files for compliance with company procedures.

  • Experience with both material and service procurements.

  • Experience working with cross-functional teams in a collaborate environment.

  • Working knowledge of Federal Acquisition Regulations (FAR).

  • Proficient with MS Word and Excel; Costpoint experience a plus.

  • Excellent organizational and communication skills.
