Hillsboro, OR / Materials and Structural Analysis Division- Software Engineering Tools and Infrastructure (SETI) group

How will you make an impact?

You will enable innovative advances for software platforms, data management, and workflow streams for our electron microscopy (EM) instruments. These instruments are utilized for various applications, such as our cryo-EM instruments enables research on coronaviruses and cystic fibrosis structure determination and within the material sciences and nanotechnologies industries (e.g. semiconductors). This team delivers infrastructure and services such as large data storage, compute power, AI/ML functionality, process automation, and software build-test-deploy procedures and collaborates with R&D software teams in the US and Europe.

What will you do?

• Collaborate with software development and test teams to understand and support their needs

• Coordinate and maintain source control repositories, build systems, build automation servers, and associated scripts

• Ensure stability of the build and test environment

• Continuously improve software configuration management (SCM), the build and test infrastructure, and deployment procedures (CI/CD)

• Develop and maintains script for automation and software development support

• Identify failed builds and smoke tests; analyze root causes in a structured way

• Work daily with the global SETI team in mitigating support requests from the R&D teams

• Recognize opportunities for infrastructure ecosystem improvements, develop innovative initiatives for enhancements as R&D team needs evolve and technology progresses

• Apply industry best practices in daily work with an emphasis on security

How will you get here?

Education

BS degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering or related discipline

Experience

• 2+ years’ of relevant work experience

• Hands on experience with virtualization technologies such as vSphere, OpenStack

• Highly proficient with scripting languages such as Python, Perl, PowerShell, and Windows batch scripting

• Prior experience with C# and/or C++ development

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

• Broad understanding of software development processes, including continuous integration and continuous delivery (CI/CD)

• Excellent knowledge of Windows 10, MS Visual Studio, MSBuild, and build processes

• Familiarity of Agile development methodologies; Atlassian product administration (Jira, Confluence)

• Knowledge of AWS cloud technologies

• Experience with SCM administration (GitLab, GitHub)

• Proficient with MS Office, including Excel

• Ability to travel to the Hillsboro, OR facility; minimum of 10-15%

Preferred Experience

• Comfortable with Linux command line

• Microservices development

• Monitoring platform experience (Nagios, Prometheus)

• Web servers and web-based tools installation and maintenance experience (e.g. Apache Tomcat, Windows IIS, and/or IBM WebSphere)

• Containerization technologies understanding (Docker, Kubernetes)

• Experience with SCM administration (GitLab, GitHub)
