The Montana Department of Revenue administers almost 40 state taxes, property appraisals, liquor laws, and unclaimed property for the state of Montana. The Director's Office Division provides support for the Director and department employees relating to tax policy, legal, human resources, training, communications, taxpayer assistance, dispute resolution, call center, accounting, budgeting, asset management, and facilities and purchasing. _DUTIES_ _Accountant I_ The incumbent performs a variety of duties assigned by management. The accountant performs professional accounting services related to the collection and management of state revenues, state revenue distributions, and associated reporting and data management. Duties include managing and maintaining department and statewide accounting and budgeting systems and managing interfaces between the Statewide Accounting, Budget, and Human Resource System (SABHRS), the department’s integrated tax system (GenTax), and other department systems. Performs department budget development, management, and related fiscal activities. The incumbent performs professional level budgeting work by monitoring, modifying, and projecting the department’s approved budget and preparing the necessary accounting entries to ensure the accuracy of the statewide financial records. This position does not supervise other staff. _Accountant II_ The incumbent performs a variety of duties assigned by management. Duties include management of the department’s accounting and fiscal systems and activities. The Senior Accountant is responsible for revenue collection and distribution; providing professional support for agency operations in compliance with regulations and accounting standards; establishing, evaluating, and maintaining accounting systems to ensure the accurate and efficient processing of department business transactions and financial reporting activities; and preparing, monitoring, and analyzing the department approved budgets to ensure agency fiscal requirements are met and comply with executive and legislative intent and applicable statutes and regulations. This position would be required to report to a Department of Revenue office assigned by the supervisor. Employees in training assignments may be paid below the base pay established by the agency pay rules. Conditions of the training assignment will be stated in writing at the time of hire. Requires the successful completion of a background check and state tax compliance status check. * *EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE Accountant I The minimum level needed on the first day of work is * Bachelor’s degree in accounting, business administration, finance, or a directly related field * Three years of job-related work experience with progressively responsible experience in accounting, fiscal and/or budget management including two years of experience in computer analysis of financial information. * Other combinations of education and experience will be evaluated on an individual basis.
