State of Montana Accountant Compliance Manager in Helena, Montana

Local Government Services Bureau (LGSB) works with local governments (counties, cities & towns, school districts, and special districts) to ensure uniform financial accountability and to assist the local governments in complying with their statutory financial and budgetary reporting requirements, including provisions of the Montana Single Audit Act and the Local Government Budget Act. LGSB provides technical assistance and training to local government accounting and financial personnel in the areas of accounting, budgeting, and financial reporting. In addition, LGSB collaborates with local governments and independent CPA firms to ensure that financial and compliance audits meet statutory requirements and professional standards. LGSB is seeking a Compliance Accounting Manager who provides management and leadership to a team of six Compliance Accountants. You would report to the LGSB Bureau Chief and work closely with the Financial Compliance Manager. If you have a desire to provide exceptional customer service, the ability to identify and improve areas in need of process improvement, and the capability to lead and motivate a team you could be the individual we are searching for. Other responsibilities include: • Researching and implementation of current and emerging governmental accounting standards for local governments • Maintaining the BARS chart of accounts and compliance supplement used by local governments and auditors • Ensuring that LGSB forms, templates and operations are in line with State law • Participating in ongoing strategic planning • Legislative session monitoring, research, and updating of the compliance supplement for local government entities • Maintaining successful working relationships with various stakeholders, including local governments, State agencies, Montana Association of Counties, The League of Cities and Towns, and members of the public /In this position you will be afforded the opportunity to telework, however there will be required weekly in office day(s) in Helena. Specific conditions will be outlined as part of the job offer and must adhere to state policy./ What are we looking for?
