The Director's Office for the Montana Department of Commerce in Helena, Montana, is looking for an Accountant with rich accounting experience and who provides excellent customer service. This position requires unparalleled integrity, initiative, resourcefulness and consistency with administering accounting principles.

This position acts as Accounting liaison for divisions in the Department. This position ensures proper accounting procedures are followed according to state policy, federal policy, and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). The position is responsible for all department accounting (except for, Board of Investments investment documents and the Board of Housing mortgage portfolio system), bookkeeping (including both receipting and disbursing), contract management, purchasing, budget entry into SABHRS and related assistance. Complex statistical and financial reports are prepared by this position. This position also participates in other functions including defining department accounting policy, updating department rules, policies, procedures, and supplying information to the public, and the Legislature.

Under guidance and direction of the Financial Manager, the position provides management level support to the Directors Office and the Department of Commerce. The position assists in the overall administration and direction of the Department in assigned areas and in accordance with federal and state statutes, department policies, procedures, and regulations. The position serves as liaison for the Department with the Budget Office and the Legislative Fiscal Division on interagency and other task forces and committees as assigned.

_Education and Experience:_

**Bachelor’s Degree in a Finance, Accounting or a related field plus 2-5 years job related experience. SABHRS experience preferred.

Equivalent combinations of education and job-related experience may be considered.

_Knowledge_:

This position requires thorough knowledge of GAAP, especially as it relates to governmental operations (GASB) and federal financial reporting. Thorough knowledge of SABHRS operations, Montana Operations Manual (MOMS), Montana Codes Annotated (MCA), and the Administrative Rules of Montana (ARMS). Knowledge of the many diverse programs administered by the Department of Commerce. Thorough knowledge of state governmental operations, fund accounting, and auditing concepts,program planning, organizational and systems analysis, development, implementation, and establishment of policy and procedure, development of organizational goals and objectives, developing work plans and priorities, purchasing requirements, management research and analysis, and coordinating resources for a state agency. As office automation continues to evolve, retraining and continuing education will remain integral parts of this job.

_Skills:_

This position requires proficiency in typing and ten key. Skill in the operation of computer systems and personal computers for word processing,computerized workflow implementation,and spreadsheet preparation. This position requires skill in the use of basic office equipment and calculators for mathematical computations. This includes programming (Data bases and Spreadsheets) to meet job requirements.

_Abilities:_

This position requires theability to interpret and analyze accounting records, prepare complex financial reports and proforma statements. Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing. Ability to resolve complex accounting problems within accounting legal limitations through manipulation, analysis, reconciliation of accounting records, and application of proper accounting principles
