The Montana Department of Public Health and Human Services (DPHHS) has a career opportunity within the Business & Financial Services Department. The Accounts Payable (AP) section processes over 800,000 payments to approximately more than 70,000 clients and vendors in addition to processing all employee and non-employee travel for the entire agency. The section also provides internal controls and financial monitoring to ensure compliance with all state and federal accounting policies and guidelines. This AP Financial Specialist position establishes and maintains internal controls for the entire agency and conducts audits to determine compliance. This position corrects and analyzes financial payment activities and develops accounting policies and procedures to help the agency meet its internal control process. Financial report created by this position are intricate and involve a variety of funding techniques and controls. Qualifications for this Career Opportunity * * * Extensive knowledge of governmental accounting and financial reporting principles, practices and techniques; budgetary and funding regulation, Statewide Accounting, Budget and Human Resource System (SABHRS) or a similar complex accounting system. * Knowledge and skills related to the application and use of Excel software including linking, V lookups and pivot tables. * Analytical and interpretive thinking skills, research, and evaluation skills. * Ability to analyze large accounting systems and interpret date from various reports and information maintained by the system. * Meet minimum qualifications: o Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, economics, business/public administration, or similar field of study with advanced financial coursework. o Three years of professional accounting experience including working with SABHRS financials or an accounting and financial reporting structure similar in complexity. o Two years of experience working with subsystems or management systems that process accounting data. o Equivalent combinations of directly related education and experience may be considered on a case-by-case basis. * * How to Apply To be considered for a DPHHS position, submit the following required documents with your application on the State of Montana Careers website.
